Up in the high Sierras amazing Meadows retain the water creating unique ecosystems, habitat and magic beauty. Essentially, this water sponge is crucial for ecosystem resilience thru the global warming process that we live in. There unique soil composition and ecosystems allow to keep water on site, retaining humidity, collecting sediments and preventing erosion by decreasing the water volume that run out of the slope. These places are sacred and we are looking ways for protecting them and revalue them, because they are also amazing beauty and give a sense of peace and calm so important to our minds and life style.

So here we are looking ways to improve our activities around them with and the US National Forest.

Sooner than later, we will be able to invite you to visit the renew camp sites Meadows at Reds Meadows valley and maybe all together jump into the amazing cold water of the upper San Joaquin River!

What better place than an amphitheater for a public performance, a lecture, a song, outdoor education, or simply enjoying nature? Tucked into a landform, sounds of live music and nature intermingle, communities gather, and a moment is shared. We are one.

Collaboration, culture, care, spirituality, and humanity arise in such sacred places.

Imagine being in such a space that brings people, nature, arts, and life together. We are whole.

A community flourishes. A sense of belonging arises. Creativity, nature, and community are linked. We are together.

Living along the creek in the city.

This three-quarter-acre creekside urban garden includes a self-sustaining riparian ‘wildland’ within a mature bay laurel forest and cultivated gardens with patios and decks at the residence.

The creek banks and channel were cleared of invasive fire-prone exotic vegetation, the native understory habitat restored, firebreaks established, and wildlife is flourishing.

Muir Woods National Monument demonstrates that restored, healthy ecological systems can thrive side by side offering public access and profound human-nature connections.

This is a special place within the US National Park system where one of the world’s tallest and oldest species of trees evolved in a rich and diverse natural ecosystem just a few miles north of San Francisco.

It’s preservation in 1905 led to the worldwide conservation movement. Since the 1980s, .landarch has been dedicated to balancing whole access with ecological restoration in this place. Asphalt paths were removed and replaced with elevated boardwalks -made of recycled redwood- to protect the forest floor
and acres of intertwined root systems, while managing public access with a wholly accessible system of elevated trails and gathering areas.

We had a nice site visit to this wonderful land, alongside progressive committed clients, and it made us think and reflect about how our projects can influence and connect with the surrounding context. We are a piece within the big puzzle.

Thinking about the connection between the farm in the countryside and the food market at the barn in town -native ecosystems, ancestral land, heritage, food processing and the simple pleasure of spending time here connected with nature and communities.

So here a little of the landscape and our thoughts on the process of design, community construction and nature connection. Stay tuned to the news of the new gathering space with fermented joy where we are working in Point Reyes Station.

Stinson Beach Boardwalk, Bathhouse Plaza + picnic areas are part of a universal accessibility system on site. In this project, the wetlands were delineated and preserved, influencing the new arrangement of the visitor facilities.

The accessible boardwalk, which was unfortunately wiped out in a severe 2023 winter storm, will be rebuilt.

Conservation and access to nature are two elements that are essential for land protection and ecosystem preservation.

Access to the wilderness promotes environmental education and creates unique links between the visitor and the place.

Establishing healthy exploration practices and promoting a special bond of the community with the ecosystem are necessary for being part of nature.

Julia Morgan, a pioneering woman architect of early 20th century California, designed the Senior Women’s Hall in 1910 for the U.C. Berkeley campus. A jewel of a building, conceived as a community gathering place to enrich the lives of the growing number of women in the student body, it was later repurposed as a childcare center in response to the changing needs of the students, faculty, and staff.
In 2014 the building was renamed Julia Morgan Hall after being relocated to the U.C. Botanic Garden. It was rehabilitated to serve as a community gathering space and event center in a new garden setting under the design leadership of and .landarch

We honor women for their diverse and important roles in society. We celebrate women in the architectural and landscape professions caring for, protecting, and creatively enriching people, land, and culture. The preservation of this stunning community resource and its sensitive re-integration within the landscape does justice to its architectural heritage and the women it has nurtured.

Kyra grew up drawing and making art with many materials, but gravitated toward landscape as a medium after UC Berkeley. She’s balancing her work at JNRA with raising two young children and building her DIY backyard orchard in Oakland. 2022 was an exciting year of removing concrete, renting heavy equipment to bring in soil, and sowing a cover crop to build that soil into a garden. It’s been a great lesson in the work it takes to make an idea into a reality. Kyra is grateful to participate in creating new ideas with other people and communities at JNRA.

By following the water and observing carefully we can discover stories of a place hidden in full view within both its large and intimate landscape setting, enjoyed by all the beings who share the space.

Located three miles upstream from the small town of Orick at the confluence of Prairie and Redwood Creek this site is being regraded to create high ground for the Trails Gateway and future Visitor Center at Redwood National and State Parks while integrating the uplands with the floodplain.
