Happy Earth Day
This and , we’re "shining a light" on the volunteers who protect the vital engines of our ecosystems: ! 🐝
Since the Great Southeast Pollinator Census (GSEPC) first took root in North Carolina in 2023, it has blossomed into a massive statewide movement under the leadership of Extension horticulture agent and NC census coordinator Amanda Bratcher.
Across the state, NC State Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers have been central to that growth, helping to bring the census to communities large and small, and contributing to a record-breaking 2025:
🌿 5,086 North Carolinians joined the cause last year—more than double the previous year’s participation!
🌸 We saw data roll in from 92 counties, proving that conservation is a priority from the mountains to the coast.
🦋 Because of this initiative, over 160 new pollinator gardens were planted across the state.
The census is more than just a count. It’s about empowering a community that’s informed, inspired and ready to protect our pollinators and planet.
