Here are some telephone photographs of the first woodworking project I’ve done since we moved to Berryville over 5 years ago. At least the only one that wasn’t “home improvement” related.
It was driven by a chunk of wood that Christina brought home much more than 5 years ago; a piece of the trunk of the maple tree that grew in the front yard of her grandmother’s place, a place she lived with mother and sister and uncle and grandmother when she was much younger.
After her grandmother (well into her 90s) moved from that house, one she’d owned for decades, the new owners of the home chopped the tree to facilitate a horrendous addition and renovation the house. Christina (living several states away) happened to be visiting and driving by shortly after the tree was cut down. She stopped to pilfer a section and it sat in my care for many years. It took me a long time to figure what it wanted to be.
Now it’s a table next to the cat-hair covered, mid-century modern chair I ganked from her sister-in-law’s basement even more years ago.
