I was asked to install a wall mounted TV Screen. The specifications of the job were as follows. The screen weighs 100lbs. The mount is 25lbs. The walls are sheetrock with metal studs. The location is a conference room at a high priced law firm.
My method for avoiding injuring a room full of high priced lawyers is as follows.

Calculate the amount of force on the wall fasteners 100lbs would be at the full extension of a 30 inch mounting arm.

(100lbs X 2.5ft) + 25LBS = 275ft/lbs of force.

Multiply that by 2 for the “human factor”.

My calculation came to 550ft/lbs of force exerted as tension to the top fasteners and compression to the bottom fasteners. To safely support this load I needed to ensure the fasteners, sheetrock, and metal studs were rated for this. The fastener capacity was easily referenced by their package labels. The capacity of the metal studs and sheetrock were calculated by calling the manufacturer directly.

“Gentlemen’s work” today. Installation of ceiling and sconce lighting.

Something to think about when buying a home with high chandeliers or ceiling lighting is the difficulty of upgrading or simply changing a light bulb. Having a chandelier lift installed to lower and raise a light with an electrical motor and wall switch eliminates the need and cost for repeated cleaning and maintenance service calls.

If you're thinking about a change in lighting for your home our business, feel free to call Credo Electric 203 917 8835

Recently I became involved in the refurbishment and modernization of an older home. The first step the homeowner decided on was to double the house electrical capacity.
This involved removing and replacing the service entry cables, electrical meter, and main electrical panel.

Something I enjoy doing is learning how my predecessors wired homes and seeing the differences in electrical components from generation to generation.

Have you ever gone to switch on a light and got that tingling sensation in your hand? Or, maybe the switch makes a crackling sound with the accompanying flickering of the lights? Have you plugged in a space heater and began to smell a scent like sulfur coming from the wall near the outlet you plugged into? I’ve been getting a lot of service calls like this lately. Often I find out from the client or through basic observation of the electrical work that the person responsible for the electrical work was unqualified and lacked the knowledge to do the work correctly.

When dealing with dangerous situations, you don’t know what you don’t know until it’s too late. Electrical work is one of those situations. Learning how to install electrical systems that are effective, efficient, and safe takes a long time and a lot of experience. Make sure your electrician is licensed and insured. Avoid the guy who knows just enough to get you into trouble. Your home and most importantly the life of your family members and you are too important to risk.

I went on a service call recently. My client was having issues with flickering lights, and intermittent loss of power on different house circuits. When I hear these types of electrical issues I make it a point to inspect the problem immediately. Flickering lights and intermittent loss of power are signs of electrical arcing, a serous electrical fire hazard.
The electrical issues were in several areas of the home, so I went directly to the main panel to start my inspection. I found seven breakers with deficient contact to the busbar, causing electrical arcing. I think pictures can better describe the type of heat electrical arcing causes. I'm happy my client called me when he did and didn’t procrastinate.

Flickering lights and intermittent power loss are signs of an extremely dangerous electrical fire hazard. If you are experiencing any of these contact a licensed electrician to inspect and solve the problem immediately. The National Fire Protection Association reports that Fire departments responded to an estimated average of 46,700 home fires involving electrical failure or malfunction each year in 2015–2019.
