Remember the pair of vintage yellow Henredon sofas I bought on marketplace and had shipped in from Michigan, forever ago? You don’t? That’s ok. The velvet was truly gorgeous but they were very, very yellow. And, knowing I wanted to expand the fireplace mantle with even more stained wood, I knew the yellow —slide 3 is most accurate — was never going to work for me. (Probably because my husband and I graduated from a high school with yellow and brown for colors and we were forever scarred. I’m not even kidding. Maroon and gold would have been a much better choice. But I digress.)
All of that is to say, I commissioned pink slipcovers last year and will never regret it. I actually wanted them without skirts, but the woman who made them insisted on the skirting and they are sharp. Mostly, I adore the way the pink balances the paneling and dark blue. A pair of pink sofas? What’s not to love?
I cannot underscore how incredible they are. If you have the chance to buy quality vintage, do it. The old growth wood is stronger. The frames are made to last forever (the workroom was super impressed). The style is classic. It’s better for the environment. I could go on, but you know the song. 😍
I also won’t say this was an inexpensive project. Buying quality fabric and having an expert make the real deal is an investment, but it was far less than buying a pair of new high quality custom sofas. And, considering these babies could last another 60+ years, it was worth every penny. (Local friends: Fortner did the work, but they are no longer taking custom residential orders)
This living room has been an exercise in . We have lived here for 4.5 years now, and I still don’t think she’s quite done. The wall color and new curtains have gone a long way, though, and I’m extra pleased with the cozy vibe she is giving this holiday season.
Welp. That was basically a love letter to my sofas.
I’m ok with that.
Let’s Tuesday. xxCC
