Rose - Drift Red Ground Cover Rose - Sugar Creek GardensA red drift rose is a low-maintenance, disease-resistant rose variety known for its continuous blooming from spring until frost, with a compact and spreading habit. It requires at least 6-8 hours of sun daily and can be grown in the ground or in containers, thriving in well-drained soil. These roses are a cross between groundcover and miniature roses, growing to a mature size of about 1-2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide.
Care and planting
Sunlight: Plant in a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. Afternoon shade can be beneficial in hot climates.
Soil: Ensure the soil is well-drained. Planting in slightly acidic, loose, and rich soil is ideal.
Planting: Dig a hole that is slightly larger than the plant's container. Gently loosen the roots before placing the plant in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with soil, water thoroughly, and add mulch around the base, keeping it away from the stems.
Watering: Water new plants frequently until established. Once established, water deeply at the base, especially during hot, dry periods, and allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Fertilizing: A slow-release rose fertilizer mixed in at planting can help. Fertilize again in the spring and summer after the first year.
Pruning: Pruning isn't mandatory but can improve vigor. In late winter or early spring, you can prune to about half the size to maintain shape and encourage new growth.
Placement
Borders: Use as a border for flower beds to add a pop of color.
Containers: They are excellent for containers, where they can spill over the edges. Be aware that container plants may need more frequent watering.
Mass planting: Plant in clusters or a staggered pattern for a more dramatic effect.
Landscaping: Fill in odd-shaped spaces or use as a backdrop for other plants.

It grows to a height of 1–2 feet with a 2–3 foot spread, thrives in full sun, and is hardy in USDA zones 4–11. Care involves annual pruning in spring, fertilizing in spring and mid-summer, and protecting the roots with mulch in colder climates, though it is self-cleaning and does not require deadheading.
Characteristics
Flowers: Softly cupped, creamy yellow blooms that fade to white. Clusters of flowers appear from spring to frost.
Growth habit: Compact and spreading, making it suitable for groundcover, borders, and containers.
Hardiness: Grows in USDA zones 4–11.
Sunlight: Prefers at least six hours of full sun daily.
Disease resistance: Highly resistant to disease.
Care and maintenance
Planting: Plant in a location with full sun and well-draining soil.
