Budget Planning. A must have skill for any remodeling consultant, that unfortunately, seems to be lacking in many markets. We are being trusted by a Homeowner to make professional suggestions, with the project being a financial placeholder, and hopefully the end result being the enjoyment of the space for the rest of the time they reside there, and ending with a return on that investment. Not to mention a faster sales cycle when that time comes. The better the consultant, the better the return, the better the value.

Not every job requires custom cabinets. More often than not, as a designer, I’ve implemented the use of well made semi-custom brands, and even stock cabinetry when those were the best solution for a Homeowner. But, on the occasions when someone needs full custom, or wants what they want, I’m forever grateful to have been lucky enough to work, and learn, from some very talented humans. Physics end up being the only limitation.

I dropped the ball on this one. Homeowner decided cheaper was better until the contractor ripped out the existing kitchen and never came back. If I’d done a better job of explaining the hazards of home remodeling they wouldn’t have lost out on $45,290 of deposit money. ALWAYS use licensed, insured, and bonded contractors and deep dive on the research. If it’s cheap, there is ALWAYS a reason.

Concept to completion, -literally doubling the storage and countertop within the existing space.
