5Heart Earthworm Farm

5Heart Earthworm Farm Food scraps are diverted to our earthworm farm where we raise red worms and produce worm castings! Darrell Reed, Operations Manager at 5Heart, is farm-raised.

Sarah Archer, owner of 5Heart Earthworm Farm, is passionate about reducing waste. She's been using worms to eat food scraps for over 20 years and loves teaching about the benefits of using worm castings. In 2013, she went from being a worm composting practitioner and educator to a worm farmer. Together, they set out to fulfill Sarah's passion for waste diversion and established 5Heart Earthworm Fa

rm in Birch Run, Michigan. What has been a labor of love with lots of help from their family, Sarah and Darrell have watched 5Heart Earthworm Farm grow from a passion to a small business and more. Our worms are only fed vegetative scraps from local restaurants, markets, and homes, rather than manures. This method may take more time and attention to produce high quality worm castings, but it is important to us to create a product that we know will be free of any residual animal pharmaceuticals and safe for growing the food that you will put on your family table. We have our worm castings tested annually by a US Composting Council accredited laboratory. 5Heart Worm Castings have passed all tests for pathogen reduction and heavy metals and received a 100% germination emergence rating. This testing assures that we provide a premium product that will improve your soil and provide bountiful plants that are healthy for you and your family.
