We employ only fully trained and experienced workers who are supervised by a foreman or one of the company owners at each job. If the trunks and branches of your crape myrtles look dusted with a white, felt-like crust, or the bark and nearby surfaces have turned black, you may be seeing crape myrtle bark scale. This insect has spread through much of Alabama, and Birmingham neighborhoods are no exception.

The scale feeds on sap and excretes a sugary honeydew that grows black sooty mold on branches, leaves, and anything underneath, like patio furniture and cars. Heavy infestations can cut down on blooms and weaken a tree over time. Left alone, a heavy infestation can drag on for several seasons.

When a large tree needs removal in a tight Birmingham yard, it’s usually done in sections due to nearby houses, fences, and power lines. A climber or bucket truck cuts the tree from the top down, lowering pieces with ropes to avoid damage. An ISA Certified Arborist assesses the tree for safe removal.

Check the base of your tree. A healthy trunk flares out like a w**e bottle. If it goes straight into the ground or a root circles the trunk, it may indicate a girdling root.

Girdling roots can develop in nurseries or if a tree is planted too deep. As they grow, they can choke off water and nutrients, leading to thinning canopies or dieback.

If caught early, a girdling root can be safely cut out by an ISA Certified Arborist at ACE Tree Service. They can excavate the root collar and recommend solutions.

Garrett and his crew did an excellent job to remove a large oak tree that was very close to our house. You can tell all the team members work together very well as the tree cutting, the removal of the debris, and clean up were completed in 5 hours. Everything went as planned with efficiency! 10 out of 5 star rating!
