We have been designing a Master Plan over the past year with St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Parish in Montevallo. It is now complete and approved by the Diocese of Birmingham to begin their fundraising!

It has been a blessing to work with a Pastor, building committee and congregation that has such an amazing vision for the future of this parish. The Master Plan includes 4 phases; A columbarium, redesign of site circulation and infrastructure, a new 1,000 seat church building and a future school for 500 students.

The design is intended to provide the parish with a campus and church with a feeling of permanence and strength while also being inviting and comfortable. As the team said many times during this process, "It's time to build a church that looks like a church".

Local low income apartment complex we have been working on is getting close to Phase 1 completion. Converted an old EconoLodge into single bedroom apartments! Great client who is working to bring life back to this part of town. Also…. the artwork!

24e Gardendale is now open. We designed a new 30,000 SF facility, 24e Health Club's first stand alone ground-up location. Great client, great contractor = great results. Go check them out if you are in the area.

Job Opening!! We are looking for an administrative assistant to work 20-30 hours per week, Monday-Thursday.

Basic skills should include word, excel, and power point. Job description includes information gathering and processing of multi-state building permit applications/fees, uploading of files to municipal websites, variance applications, responses to city comments, data collection/research for new retail project requirements as well as other in-house needs for presentations, brochures, errands and supplies.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS!?!?!

August, 1999. I wasn’t sure how I was going to do it, but I knew I needed to start my own architectural firm. And now, in a blink of an eye, Black Design Architecture is celebrating our 25th year!

I am so grateful to all the wonderful clients and friends that have supported us along the way. For this, you have my deepest gratitude. Past years produced some scary times with 9/11, a Great Recession, & Covid. We even survived our office burning down in 2011. But here we are, 1,270 projects later and projects in 6 states. Our shared values, ethics and mission remain unaltered in a world of constant change. And a special thank you goes to the people of BDA who make everything happen and with such passion, ownership and integrity.

We look forward to another 25 years of producing beautiful and meaningful designs while working with the best clients, friends and consultants that I could ever imagine. Thank you! LB
