Some questions I regularly get
-"Your able to drive wood post?? I don't believe that!"
- "Are wood post driven as sturdy as digging and tamping or concrete? "
To answer these questions, yes, I am able to drive wood post. I drive almost all of all the wooden post that I typically put in. Sometimes there are situations that do not allow me to such as rock, access, roots, but 95% of the time I am able to. Driving wooden post has been an Industry standard in the Ag Fence construction world for many years, the reason not many residential fence contractors drive them is because they're not specialized in Ag Fence, same reason I do not build chain link or privacy fence (not my expertise).
To the second question, having set thousands (yes thousands as in too many to count) of wood post over the past 6 years, lots of tamping, and lots of driving them in recent years, I will take a post that is drove, any day over tamping and concrete. Concrete will rot the post faster, and you never get all the dirt packed in the way it was before. I've pulled many, many rotten ones up over the years, and seen many loose or lifted posts that have been hand set/tamped. Driving post is not only the most efficient, but there is no ground disturbance, other than further packing the existing soil in as the post goes lower, making the set stronger. I typically am driving post to approximately 3' depth so they have a very good footing and make a much better anchor and stretch point. If you've wondered about either of these topics I hope this gives some clarity. As always if you have questions about a project in the Blount/Cullman/Marshall county area, give me a call.
