We’ve had some brutal weather out here lately, and I’m getting a lot of calls about fronds turning brown. I want to put your mind at ease: this isn’t just happening to your yard, it’s happening island-wide.
Here is the reality of having tropical plants in our climate: Mother Nature is ultimately in charge, and none of us can control the weather. When we get these late cold snaps and heavy winds, the trees take a hit.
This is exactly why I always advise waiting until later in May to take delivery of your trees! I know everyone is eager to get the biggest, tallest palms installed the second May begins, but those early weeks are risky. Getting your trees a little later in the month when the soil and air have truly warmed up is always the safer play.
What you should do right now:
Don’t panic! Let the weather stabilize and give your trees some time to bounce back. As things heat up, they will start looking like their usual selves again.
