Annual interior design meeting recap:
✔️reflection
✔️planning
✔️fun

Just a quick reminder, I am on social media because I like sharing the behind-the-scenes of my interior design business along with the pretty photos!

I started Navy Lane Design so I could have the independence to just “do my thing” and have really loved the freedom that comes with being self employed. Thanks for watching & supporting me!

Mid November of 2025 my client and I flew to Florida to take a look at a house in Boca Grande. I started planning the updates immediately!

-new lighting throughout
-new hardware
-new kitchen countertops and backsplash
-new furniture, rugs, linens, artwork & mirrors

Today, a second delivery of furniture arrived. We are just waiting on the third shipment of furniture, wallpaper for the laundry room & hall bathroom, along with three paintings.

It’s so much fun to see the progress!

Just a quick recap of the last few weeks…
Three clients in the “final details” part of the design process, a vacation over the holidays and several snow days!

One of my goals this year is to read more and scroll on my phone less. I added a daily timer to my social media and have read 3 books so far this month.

When I was 11, I got my first babysitting job for the neighbors paying $4.50/hr. Then, I was a receptionist for a nursing home and eventually worked as a resident assistant with the seniors. During high school I would occasionally work 3rd shift at Porter Hills on the weekends to get more hours in. After college, I kept babysitting and it eventually landed me my first full time job working for a local developer.

I’ve always enjoyed working and don’t think I’ll ever fully retire! Teaching the love of work (for no payment) is something Mike and I focus on for our kids. Ie. Help a neighbor, do something extra kind just because, be an equal participant in household chores, and enjoy blessing others. It’s a lot more fun when we are working together!

What a privilege it is to build a life around creativity. To work with my hands, trust my vision, nurture my kids, uplift other artists & small businesses, and chase the kind of freedom my younger self prayed for. Grateful for the business that lets me be fully me ♥️

Self-employment isn’t always easy, but it is deeply worth it! I’m so, so thankful I listened to my intuition and took the leap to start Navy Lane Design & Consulting. A little bravery back then opened the door to a life I never could’ve imagined now. A courageous “yes” carries as much weight as a confident “no” and together they define your path. { Feeling Grateful }

While I love a good before & after… it’s not my favorite part of these photos!!
This client purchased an incredible all brick home with pool, tennis courts, barn and acres of land. The problem: the house needed updates and they had no vision or plan.

I was hired two years ago to start a kitchen remodel. Well, at my first visit, I asked, “what’s the plan for the exterior?” They didn’t ask for help with the exterior but I knew I could make it so much better: New roof, limewash, paint shutters & remove the trees crowding the front door. They always knew it needed an update but I gave them the nudge and crews to make it happen… and they love it.

Ps- the kitchen remodel that they hired me for had a scope increase so now the main floor remodel is starting January 2026!

Thanks for the referral ♥️

Every designer knows there are different ways to present our ideas. Sometimes it’s a few inspo pictures, a few product links and then we move forward. Other times, it’s scaled drawings full of details. For this small little girl’s bathroom, we wanted to maximize our space and give it some charm. Ideas: step stool so we could have full height cabinets, zero step shower, scallops, arch mirror, hidden electrical, tower storage, wall paneling & wallpaper!

Pink tip: While the cabinets are a subtle pink, we went with a beige with a pink undertone so it wasn’t too bright.

“You might love it or you might hate it.”
Finding playful art as a designer, I told my client that it might take a few tries. Since I barely knew her, how would I know what would make her smile?

Well, as a mom who loves coffee, it started with the coffee print… starting a morning by jumping in! Next, I wanted to pull in New York City … so I found the subway image. Lastly, a multi-color nature print that felt cheerful. My client approved it at my first draft & the prints were ordered.

It turned into something bigger …
When my client called last summer sharing he just sold his fully remodeled home and purchased another house in Manchester Hills, I wasn’t sure if I would have enough time in my schedule to help.

Ultimately, I agreed to work on this house because it really needed a transformation and because I previously worked with this client, I knew he would let me be creative!

Upscale remodels have a large return on investment… most people want to move right in to a beautiful home and not have to work with 100 crews to get there. While remodeling takes a lot of effort and energy, seeing the transformation is such a fun part of my job!
