You might have noticed that, while this Hurricane Season has been unusually quiet, the rain has been coming down in buckets all across Florida. This is due to the “El Nino” effect being experienced, where increased wind shear is making it difficult for systems to develop and stay intact.
Essentially, it’s a trade-off: fewer organized storms in the Atlantic, in exchange for increased rainfall.
In times like these, having impact windows that have been properly waterproofed during installation is CRITICAL. When you Choose Wise and Choose Statewide Home Improvement, you’re getting decades of experience behind every window and door we install in your home. We employ a tried-and-true process to correctly waterproof:
⭕ Making sure the opening is dry, dust free, and free of jagged edges or old nails
⭕ Applying the first coat of Vulkem 171 primer to ensure waterproofing adheres properly
⭕ After the primer cures for five hours, applying the first coat of Vulkem 350 waterproofing liberally to fill any holes or cracks
⭕ Caulking behind the bucks using Vulkem 116, a compatible product, then installing the bucks using lasers
⭕ Once the bucks are pressure treated and installed with stainless steel tapcons, adding a second coat of Vulkem 350 waterproofing and add sand while still wet
⭕ Letting the finished product cure overnight before completing installation of the windows and doors
For impact windows and doors installed the right way and guaranteed to stand up to any storm, Choose Wise, Choose Statewide Home Improvement.
