I put the final touches to the irrigation system at the Special Events Center, now called the Live Oak Pavilion at Horseshoe Bay. The landscape design was by Talley and Associates out of Dallas. My role in the project was to design all of the irrigation systems.
large projects like the Live Oak Pavilion can be a challenge. Many different plant groups, trees in grass areas, trees in drip irrigation areas and trees in areas without supplemental irrigation. Shrubs and perennials groups which have different water requirements. Plants in raised planters, some in full sun and some in more shaded areas. Fortunately Hunter Irrigation manufactures a line of irrigation controllers that are sophisticated enough to allow for multiple irrigation programs for a complicated irrigation design like the one I developed for the Live Oak Pavilion.
The planting designed included over 10,000 individual plants. Shrub varieties included, Wedelia, Soft Rush, Purple Smoke Indego, Inland Sea Oats, Giant Liriope, GroLo Fragrant Sumac, Gold Rush Coneflower, Day Lillie’s, Barbados Cherry, Heavy Metal Switchgrass, American Wisteria and Texas Sage. Tree varieties included Live Oak, Pond Cypress, Autumn Gold Madden Hair Tree and Claudia Wannamaker Magnolia. An interesting selection of plants and definitely not drought tolerant oriented.
Some photos of the pond that surrounds the outdoor pavilion area. It is interesting how the outdoor area is cooled by the wind blowing through these large fountain columns of water.
If you have a project that requires a sophisticated landscape and irrigation design, give me a call. I would like to collaborate with you on your project.
