โLearn to love what it takes to get what you want.โ
-Amy Porterfield
When I heard these words last week, I literally stopped in my tracks. ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ
And then I shouted out loud โYes!!! This! This is it!โ.๐
When you want something in your life (a result, a habit, a skill, a possession, etc), you have 2 choices:
Will I hate and disdain the things I โhaveโ to do to get what I want?
OR
Will I love and appreciate the things I do to get what I want?
Itโs really as simple as that.
You get to decide between loving and hating.
One decision makes you feel terrible.
The other decision makes you feel empowered.
Now, โloveโ is a funny word. โLoveโ does not always mean โlikeโ... but it does mean โrespectโ, โvalueโ and โappreciateโ. You donโt have to โLIKEโ every part, but you do need to love it.
When I started my flower farm business, I thought that I should just be able to grow flowers. I didnโt want to do all the โbusiness thingsโ necessary for growing a business. In fact, I convinced myself that I hated many of them!
Eventually, I reached a crossroads. Either I needed to learn to love what it would take to get what I wanted (to grow flowers!)โฆ or I had to quit farming.
Hereโs what I learned to love (respect, value, appreciate) to create a thriving farm business:
Accounting
Bookkeeping
Boundaries
Budgeting
Business Plans
Calendaring/Scheduling
Cash Flow Projections
Copywriting
Customer Service
Discipline
Discomfort
Exercise
Failure
Graphic Design
Lack of Control
Leadership Training
Limits
Marketing
Mind Management
Organization
Record Keeping
Restraint
Rest
Self Control
Self Development
Social Media
Soil Science
Spreadsheets
Taxes
Time Management
Uncertainty
Unpredictability
Website Design
Think about what YOU want in your life.
Are you willing to:
Feel awkward?
Be uncomfortable?
Put in the hours?
Show up anyway?
Do the things you need to do?
You get to choose.
You can learn to love what it takes to get what you want.
And trust me. Taking action out of love and appreciate makes life so much more enjoyable than taking action out of hate and disdain.
