Welcome to my business page! Updates have been sparse this year, because I am blessfully very very busy. I have 14 active jobs this year so far. Happily, several are repeat clients. I have worked EVERY day from March 9th through June 6th. Understandably, being self-isolated at home makes families re-evaluate their houses and how those houses function for their needs. I'm always glad to help them attain their goals.🙂

Massive admiration for the work of Liz Diller! She has done SO much to enrich the built-environment of New York. Her massive MoMA addition remodel made a great feature on CBS Sunday Morning today. Amazing! BUT the project that I most love is the over-the-top telescoping building she designed in conjunction with the High Line "transit park" in Manhattan. https://dsrny.com/project/high-line

Last night I found myself hunkered down in the middle hallway hugging my archi-dogs and my precious laptop bearing all of my current work while the tornado sirens blared! My mind wandered to what would become of the 50 years of paper drawings and files that are in this building if a tornado hit it? It may be time to re-contact the Mo State Historical folks about taking my life's work for preservation!!!

So very relieved to hear this morning that my residential project from 2015 in Jefferson City was not touched by last night's tornado. My heart goes out to all those who have had their homes and businesses destroyed.

The joy in doing my work includes getting calls out-of-the-blue from clients with whom I worked 20 years ago....and hearing that they want me to help them with their new project!

Late yesterday, my phone died....the only remaining functions were texting and camera...which really means it's not a phone anymore! So when I went today and bought a new phone....it took 70 minutes to transfer my contacts and photos to the new phone. When I asked why it took so long, the guy incredulously replied...."Because you have the most contacts on your phone that we've ever seen" "Really?" I asked."Yeah, you have 697 contacts!" Folks, that's a lot of clients, contractors, and suppliers!

Happy Friday, February 15th, to everyone! We are almost out of winter despite our current weather today. So if you want to do a project in 2019, and you're not already underway....get started today! You may already be behind on your schedule. Don't wait til the first sunny warm day of spring. Everyone who began their plans, hired their contractor, and got their financing in order last fall will be ahead of you in the queue.

Since its declaration by Reagan in 1983 and designation as a Federal Holiday, I have never had an MLK holiday off. That's 36 years of working when many others are off. So, with retirement looming in the not-too-far-away future, I spoke to the "Boss" and negotiated a holiday for myself, even if only for this year. See y'all on Tuesday!

Architectural history lesson today, of sorts:
Many perceptions of people about "Modern" architecture is that architectural design is a progressional process. It is not. "Modern" design has often been something of an anomaly within its relative era design. For instance, FLW designed 'Prairie-style' buildings within the Victorian architecture era. Here's another example of such a revolutionary design approach that was an entire movement: Bauhaus! It was a 100-yr old movement offering clean, simple, engineered lines in the midst of WWI architecture simultaneous to Wright's nature-oriented style and as a precursor to the trend of Deco-art & architecture. It's still influencing our homes and commercial buildings today:

Germany is celebrating the 100th birthday of the Bauhaus art and design movement. Throughout the year, they will hold exhibitions and performances.
