Landscaping is not my ministry… and I’ve finally accepted that.😂

The last time I did these flower beds, I overcrowded everything so bad the plants basically started taking each other out.😳

So this time, I worked with a landscaper to figure out the right trees, flowers, spacing, and layout before buying everything. They helped us lay it all out the right way and hopefully prevent another botanical tragedy.😂

Now Larry and I are entering our “let’s try to keep this stuff alive” era. Wish us well.

They also ended up making the flower beds bigger… which meant I ran out of stone border… which turned into me double layering the border for a more Mediterranean look because apparently I don’t know how to do anything simple.🤷🏽‍♀️

But honestly? That little detail made such a difference, and it’s finally starting to feel like the vision in my head.

Between the bad weather last week and handling some personal things, we’re a little behind… but this whole challenge has really been stretching me creatively in areas I normally avoid. And surprisingly, I’m starting to enjoy it.

Week 6 ✔️Next up: Faux Wood Garage Door + Windows

Okay, let’s break this down… because I know y’all are watching like 👀

First, we grabbed the shutter base and trim from two different home improvement stores. Neither one had everything we needed, so we had to improvise.

Then we had each piece cut down so it could fit in Tootsie (that’s my truck…don’t act like you didn’t name your vehicle a time or two 😂).

Once we got home, we cut everything to the exact size and built the frame using pocket holes and rust-resistant screws. I also used my triangle square to make sure all my corners were straight.

After that, I added LOCTITE adhesive and nailed the frame to the base.

I still need to add edge banding, and I’m testing out stain colors, so more to come. But for now, I’m just proud of how these turned out…and the fact that Larry and I made it through this without needing a break from each other. 😂

Oh wait… he’s not even in the last part of this video sooo.🤔😳

One Room Challenge Week 4 ✔️
Next up: landscaping 👀

📌Save this for when you’re ready to try it yourself.

This patio humbled us real quick 😂

We hired landscapers to install this patio 6 years ago. What we didn't know was that they never put down a w**d barrier. So here we are.

The goal was to reuse the pavers because we're trying to save wherever we can on this project. So we pulled them up and laid them on the drive in the same pattern because they were cut to fit that area. Then we cleaned them, leveled the space, and put the pavers back the right way.

Also learned: pavers are heavy and our backs are not 20 anymore. 😂

Week 3 ✅
Next up: custom shutters 👀

DIY has always been therapy for me… but this time, I’m in couples therapy too😂

There’s something about working with your hands that lets your mind breathe. It’s where I process, release, and honestly… learn a lot about myself.

But this time, I’m not doing it alone.

As new empty nesters, Larry and I are in a season of rediscovery. We’re learning each other again without our 5 daughters, figuring out who we are now… individually and together.

So this project? It’s more than a makeover.
It’s us working side by side, building something with intention… while also working through a few “isms” along the way (mainly mine😂). And what better way to start this journey than with the which is how I started my individual Home DIY experience.

I’m excited to see what we create…
what we uncover…
and who we become through it all.

Because one thing I know for sure…
the mess is gonna be real…
but so is the message at the end of it all.

Let’s shape what comes next together!

Around this time last year, I asked you what you wanted to see from me, and your answers truly shaped how I showed up.

As the world continues to shift, I’ve been moving with more intention. As a mental health advocate, a veteran, and a DIY and home design creator, I feel a responsibility to share beauty with care and compassion.

This space has never been just about projects. It’s about creating homes that support real life, real emotions, and real people.

So I’m asking again: what do you need from me in this season? I’m listening…

I’m still trying to process this moment.🥹

A year and a half ago, God put it on my heart to write a book, and honestly… I was scared. I didn’t know how, I didn’t know the process, and I questioned whether my story even mattered enough to be written down. But I told God at the beginning of this year that if He asked me to do something, I would say yes and trust Him with the rest.

This moment is the result of that yes. With the help of Blu Impressions Publishing LLC I’m honored and so grateful to be a Co-author in ‘Her March Forward’ a book collaboration with women veterans from different branches, but this isn’t just about military service. It’s about resilience, courage, and walking through hard seasons and still choosing to move forward. It’s about the parts of the journey we don’t always talk about, and the strength it takes to keep going.

I’m personally signing every ordered copy because I don’t take your support lightly. You gave your time, your money, and your belief to something that started as obedience for me—and I’m so grateful. My prayer is that this book reaches exactly who it’s meant to reach and encourages someone right where they are.

Thank you for being part of this moment with me.

Share this with someone who needs it to let them know they are not alone.

✨ Finally..It's the Entryway Reveal!✨

This entryway took longer than I planned... and then it came together right on time.

What started as a home project turned into something much deeper when I realized how much my girls needed a soft place to land after a heavy semester. As an empty-nester mom in a blended family, having all three of them home for Christmas this year felt big - and I wanted the space to reflect that.

Not perfect.
Just calm.
Finished.
Intentional.

I pushed through the last two and a half weeks because their peace mattered more than my comfort. And sitting here now, I'm proud - not just of how it looks, but of what it represents.

Also...their reaction gave "college kid," but l'll take that as a win.

Sometimes the real win isn't the makeover...it's keeping a promise you made for the people you love.

Welcome to Mission Make It Merry - Part 4

I had a plan for how this would go…
and then my girls came home and reminded me that real life doesn’t follow timelines.

They’re here. One’s sick, and the other two just want to hide out in their rooms.
After the semester they’ve had, that makes complete sense to me.

What mattered most to me was this:
I didn’t want them walking into unfinished projects or more noise when they were already tired. I wanted the house to feel settled. Calm. Done.

And even if the reaction was low-key (very college-kid energy 😂), I kept my promise… and that means more to me than the reaction ever could.

I’m still sharing this final phase of the entryway because it represents something bigger for me: showing up with intention, even when the moment doesn’t look how you imagined.

👉 Be sure to follow along for the reveal. And if you’re a parent, you already know… sometimes just having them home is the win. Do you agree?

Welcome to Mission: Make It Merry — Part 3

Somewhere between “this is exciting”
and “why did I do this right now?”
is where Part 3 lives.😂

This was my first time installing arches, so I moved slow. Then I prepped and limewashed the walls and ceiling…that is definitely a ‘trust the process’ type of thing.

My design decisions are happening in real time, with a very real deadline in the background. But I’ve got this!

And throughout this process, I remind myself that I’m choosing to do this now because I want to show up with intention…for my girls.

I want them walking into something finished, calm, and cared for after a hard semester…
not something half-done.

Part 4 is where this space really starts to turn a corner.

👉 Follow along to see how it turns out…and tell me: are you a take-your-time or a race-the-clock kind of person?

📣✨ANNOUNCEMENT✨ 📣

If you’ve been following along in my stories you’re already aware, if not I won’t hold it against you.😂

But I’m excited to share that I am a co-author in a powerful collaborative book called Her March Forward — a collection of stories from women veterans across multiple branches of the military. Our stories reflect resilience, purpose, and what it means to keep moving forward through change, challenge, and growth.

We’re also celebrating the release with a virtual book launch happening tomorrow December 10th at 10am CST, where you’ll get to hear directly from the authors, learn more about the heart behind the book, and be inspired by the journeys shared within these pages.

If you’re someone who appreciates meaningful stories, believes in honoring service, or simply needs encouragement to keep moving forward, I’d love for you to join us.

Grab a copy of my book at Shemoveswithpurpose.com AND register for the book launch at Hermarchforward.com OR get both links in bio or “My Book” story highlight.
