From porch to playroom 🛠⁠

This enclosed porch was drafty and dated. To turn it into a cozy usable family and playroom the crew had to bring it back down to studs. We vaulted the ceilings with shiplap to open up things up. New windows and some much needed insulation helped ensure this space could be warm and usable even throughout harsh New England winters. ⁠

Refresh vs. Remodel - what's the difference? ⁠

While a refresh is great option if you're already happy with some of the existing aspects of your space, a remodel is essentially starting from scratch.⁠
⁠
This bathroom felt oppressively dark and the style was far from a reflection of the homeowner's fun and bright personality. We brought it back down to studs for a full remodel. During the process we even discovered an original window frame! ⁠
⁠
With a remodel you have the opportunity to make it completely your own and often can make layout changes that wouldn't be possible with a refresh. ⁠

If you're planning an update for your space, you may want to start by figuring out whether you need a refresh or a full remodel. But what's the difference?⁠
⁠
A full remodel means everything new down to the studs. A refresh can vary a lot more, but typically means you're keeping some things already in the space. ⁠
⁠
This bathroom had recently been remodeled and had solid bones, but overall didn't feel right as a kids bathroom with it's monochromatic color scheme and limited storage. It needed a refresh! ⁠
⁠
We kept the floors, bathtub, and tile. To improve the storage we swapped the vanity, added a fun locker, and a collapsable drying rack for laundry. To brighten up all that grey we went with a playful primary color scheme, and geometric shapes. ⁠

Last week this amazing large format tile arrived and was ready to go up at our Philly bathroom renovation! Before that happened our design team and build crew got together to plan out the thoughtful placement of each tile. ⁠

Originally a West Coast girl, Christine moved to Boston in 2021 and joined the Fitzwater team this past year. Lately she's been loving the "Wes Anderson vibes" and "Dopamine Interiors".⁠

What are "Dopamine Interiors"? Inspired by the Tiktok trend, they're highly personalized spaces often featuring bright colors, fun patterns, and adorable trinkets. ⁠
⁠
"The fun thing about dopamine interiors is you can go as far as you’re comfortable with it, it’s so personal! It can be a single fun accent piece as long as it makes you happy, or the whole room curated with fun colorful pieces. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I love it when people are daring with the elements they use in interiors. Make them one of a kind, so unique."⁠
