A little Tile History from the Tile Nerds 🤓:

**The earliest known use of the herringbone pattern was by the Romans, around 500 B.C., primarily in road construction. They used it in a technique called opus spicatum (Latin for "spiked work").

**The Romans laid brick-like pavers in the herringbone pattern because it helped absorb and distribute the weight of traffic effectively, which was crucial for the durability of their roads

**Romans also used this pattern in mosaics and flooring inside villas and bathhouses, showcasing both practicality and artistry.
