Well, I thought I would share a recent learning curve with you all.

When I first considered having an audiobook for my book, I was really hesitant to read it myself as I had watched quite a few YouTube videos about doing it yourself and got spooked with the complexity and sound quality needed.

I had recently heard that Audible was allowing synthetic voice to be used for audiobooks and that appealed to me much more than learning how to create and become a recording studio in my bedroom...

My assistant turned me on to one of the companies doing voice AI, and I was all about it. I spent 3.5 hours creating my voice sample so the company could then create my reading voice and then read my book.

In the first few sentences, I was truly blown away at how good it sounded—and that it sounded just like me! It was spooky but efficient! I was in!

Yet as we progressed with the project, I felt that the AI was not allowing enough pauses between my sentences, and it all sounded really confusing. It was Super sad...

My assistant went above and beyond and became an expert in audio editing and tried her best to make the synthetic reading sound great. She was successful to a point, but there were plenty of words that were just not being read with enough emphasis or incorrect emphasis for that matter. It became a slooooooow slog and I finally said, "I'm going to just read a chapter and see how horrible it is on my end and then on your end to edit."

About five sentences in, I realized that I really enjoyed the process and that I loved having so much control over the book's final sound. So needless to say, my bedroom has indeed become a studio which has been pretty wild. I close all the windows, turn off all the fans, unplug my cooling fan for my computer and instantly start SWEATING my t**s off since it's been over a 100 degrees this past week.

I've been amused by the irony of what I wanted originally and my current reality. I could have read half the book in the time that I provided the voice sample. Ugh.

Sometimes a lesson just has to be learned the hard way.

A few weeks ago I received this thoughtful and incredibly kind gift from one of the sweet peeps in my life in celebration of my book release.

I was touched by someone's generosity in allowing my Mom's celebration to be part of this monumental life experience.

Thank you to the unknown friend who created such a beautiful way of showing me love and feeling what it would be like to have my Mom still on the planet celebrating with me. 💜💜💜

I have told everyone and have my whole life that I was raised by Smurfette, who loved being happy and enthusiastic about all things, big and small. Hence the ever-so-thoughtful Smurfette Cheerleader!

I am so blessed with the wonderful people that I've had the amazing good fortune to meet, laugh, and learn with. Thank You Mystery Gift Giver! I love you!
