Great site visit today to mark the substantial completion milestone for the new Medicine Root District government building! Once open, the facility will feature much-needed office space, a multipurpose room for community events, a commercial kitchen, and a full basketball court. Love seeing the teamwork on this project for the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Building Smarter: Cost-Effective Off-Site Construction!
Today’s the day at the OLHA Pine Ridge Housing Project! We’re installing precast foundation panels, a fantastic example of using off-site construction to keep our project on track and on budget.

Why Off-Site & Precast?
Speed: Manufacturing components like these panels in a controlled factory environment significantly speeds up on-site installation. Less time equals less cost!
Quality: Precision fabrication results in a higher-quality, more consistent product than traditional pour-in-place methods.
Waste Reduction: Less material waste on-site, contributing to a more sustainable and cost-effective build.
Weather Independence: Production isn’t slowed down by rain, snow, or cold—keeping schedules tight and predictable.

These panels are being installed quickly and efficiently, providing a strong, durable, and cost-effective foundation for the rest of the homes. We’re excited to visit the housing factory this week for the Blower-Door testing!

Project Groundbreaking!

We are pleased to announce that the project to develop 25 new affordable, energy efficient homes for the Pine Ridge community is officially under construction.

This construction milestone is possible thanks to the outstanding achievement of the Oglala Lakota Housing Authority (OLHA) Leadership Team. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to them for successfully securing a highly competitive Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) allocation!

Securing LIHTC funding was the critical factor that made this development happen, a direct result of OLHA’s dedication and meticulous planning by the development team. We are honored to serve as both the Architect and Construction Manager on this vital project. This funding success is an example of OLHA’s commitment to building a more resilient and stable future for Tribal members.

The important work of building these new homes is well underway! Stay tuned for progress updates as we visit the modular factory next week to conduct blower door tests on the new units!

We’re onsite today watching the first geothermal wells being drilled for the Waniyetu Wowapi Lakota Youth Arts and Culture Center!

How it helps achieve Net-Zero: Geothermal heat pumps transfer heat to/from the ground, drastically reducing the energy needed for the HVAC system. When coupled with a super insulated building envelope and solar power, this system helps us achieve net zero energy of the course of the year!

Team Spotlight!
We are proud to celebrate Masani Salazar, a valued member of the Ferguson Pyatt team and the Taos Pueblo Tribal community! Masani is pictured here with her family, (including her 90-year-old grandfather, Mr. Lujan!, her aunt Bernadette Mirabal, and her uncle Rico Lujan) after a recent community engagement meeting. Masani co-facilitated this important session, ensuring that every voice in the community was heard and integrated into the design process.
