Before modern glass the wavy glass in your windows was likely “cylinder” glass like in this 1918 picture.

The glass was blown out thru machines into these cylinders and then the cylinders would be laid down on a table, scored on one side and heated again so they would slowly lay down flat into a sheet of glass that could be cut into the pieces we have in our historic windows.

It was an imperfect process that resulted in that glorious wavy glass we love today.

We’re looking forward to a restoration of these old-growth poplar windows! They are 108 years old, have received little more than one or two coats paint, and yet are entirely rot free.
