This is what photo organizing actually looks like. Not prettier boxes — fewer of them. We sorted, culled the duplicates and the blurry ones and the 14 near-identical shots of the same Christmas tree, labeled what mattered, and scanned it all.

She got her table back. And she can actually find things now.

Think about it — you learned to wipe a counter, run a vacuum, fold a towel. Nobody ever sat you down and explained how to decide what comes into your house, what leaves, or where the rest of it lives. So you got very good at cleaning around your things and never got taught the actual skill.

And now you’re doing the same thing with your kids. Telling them to clean their room, which to them means shoving it all somewhere you can’t see it. Because that’s what we do too, just with nicer bins.

The skill is deciding. It’s not tidiness, it’s not discipline, it’s not a personality type you either have or don’t. It’s a thing you can learn at 8 or 38.

Most of what's in your house can be replaced. Your photos can't.

I say this to clients who feel guilty about spending money on organizing. You've got a whole house of stuff you could re-buy tomorrow if you had to. And then you've got four boxes in the closet that are genuinely irreplaceable, sitting in a spot with no climate control, degrading a little every year.

Everything else? Replaceable. The furniture, the dishes, the boxes of stuff in the garage. But that box of prints in your closet — the loose ones, the albums, the drugstore envelopes with the negatives still inside — there's exactly one copy of those.

Whole. Home. Reset. 🤯

Swipe through this one. But first, a little context: this is an older home—and if you've ever lived in one, you know the charm comes with a catch. Almost no built-in storage. Tiny closets. Not enough cabinets. Awkward corners that don't fit anything.

So this wasn't a case of "they let it go." This was a home doing its best with the storage it was never given. And that's a problem you cannot organize your way out of with willpower—you need the right systems for the space you actually have.
