Introducing Aska’s Animal Haus, featured in The Architect's Newspaper.

Built with straw panel assemblies and guided by Passive House principles, the project offers a different approach to building in the Mountain West.

“The Mountain West is developing fast, and much of what’s going up, [Lindsay Schack] said, doesn’t always have the best building science behind it. Aska’s Animal Haus is her answer to that: a home where affordability, health, and environmental responsibility aren’t competing goals. ‘Once people understand what Passive House is and what it’s based upon, and what it gets you,’ she said, ‘there’s really no alternative.’”

Thank you, The Architect's Newspaper, for featuring our project! Keep reading at the link in our bio.

Wellness begins in the foundation of your home.

Straw-based Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs) are prefabricated, self-supporting wall sections filled with chopped, densely compressed straw inside a wood frame. Instead of foam, they use an agricultural byproduct with far lower embodied carbon.

The density of the straw helps resist fire spread and, because it is too densely packed, it does not attract pests. Panels are installed quickly, which is a major advantage in regions with short building seasons and limited labor. It is a smart evolution of straw-bale building, pairing natural materials with contemporary fabrication.

Our friends at New Frameworks Natural Design/Build are the experts at S-SIPs, and we’re grateful to have collaborated with them on a recent project.

We’re AIA Small Project Design Knowledge Community Grant recipients!

The grant supports non-profit organizations that partner with architecture firms on community-based projects. We’re working with American Prairie to design a permanent cabin for their Field School, a program serving predominantly Indigenous communities. The project will provide shelter, create a space for gathering and learning, and support the growth of their cultural programs.

Thank you, The American Institute of Architects, for this opportunity!

Designing for American Prairie asks you to pay attention to what the land teaches. For Lindsay Schack, it also reconnects her to the place that shaped her. Growing up in eastern Montana taught her resilience, respect for the land, and an appreciation for utility that still guides our work today.

The prairie’s harsh conditions demand durability, but they also invite a quieter kind of beauty. That balance is at the core of our approach and why Passive House principles continue to play such an important role in our practice.

Collaborating with American Prairie extends those early lessons. Lindsay reflects on this relationship and the values behind it in her essay for the American Prairie Journal.

10 Years of Collaboration.

Over the past decade, we’ve had the privilege of working with incredible clients and partners who trust us to bring their visions to life. Their kind words remind us why we do what we do, and inspire us to keep raising the bar.

Here’s what a few of them have to say about working with Love Schack.

10 years of Love Schack Architecture.

Founded in December 2015 in Bozeman, Montana, the firm began with a simple idea: create homes that bring people closer to nature and to each other. A decade later, that idea has grown into a practice rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and craft. This month, we’re celebrating where we started, what we’ve built, and what’s next. Stay tuned for stories from ten years of Love Schack.

We’re proud to announce that Love Schack Architecture has joined The American Institute of Architects 2030 Commitment. This initiative challenges architecture firms to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in every project, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

By becoming a 2030 Commitment signatory, we are taking a concrete step toward addressing one of the biggest challenges of our time. The Commitment helps us track and measure our projects’ performance, prioritize energy efficiency, and focus on climate adaptation, mitigation, and social equity.

This aligns with our ongoing mission to design thoughtful, sustainable buildings that respond to both our clients’ needs and the planet. Learn more about our approach: https://bit.ly/4dMayMD
