Vermont Roadworks has been a sponsor to Planet Hank. We believe that he has done some great work as a mobilizing force. There is much work to be done together in Brattleboro, Vermont. Our letter states our difficult position. Its not difficult to identify what goes against our morals and values and to denounce hate speech. Its difficult because of the potential. Its difficult because we believe in reform through therapy, growth, hitting rock bottom, accountability and forgivenesss. Our industry is the industry of second chances. I hope we can heal together and that both sides stop the name calling and insults.

Please take The Vermont Roadworks logo off from any media, programs or promotions. Given recent social media posts made public, Vermont Roadworks does not want to be aligned with a company or person that has made very hateful remarks about black people, woman, r**e victims, the police, the LGTBQ community and people who's ideologies are not right wing.

There are changes that need to happen in Brattleboro, VT, that is for sure. We wanted to support the realities of what is going on in Brattleboro and what our emergency workers go through. We wanted to support creating and building better systems of awareness regarding drug addiction, mental illness and the effects the above has on small business, infrastructures and families.

Change needs to happen to reform people and give them the help they need at a community and state level. Nothing changes until people acknowledge that real work needs to be done. Hank has been a catalyst for discussion and bringing people together to recognize that things are broken and we need to fix them, change and talk. This is a positive thing, when all people have a seat at the table.

However, in good conscience we cannot support rhetoric, albeit two years ago or one week ago, that is not conducive to inclusion, diversity, equity, respectful dialogue or progress. Progress happens when people put aside differences, and work towards creating better systems and lives for all. This still needs to happen, in Brattleboro.

Over 3 years ago Fred was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. He has it in his bones and has had it in a few lymph nodes. They were ready to put a port in him the week of diagnosis. We wanted to target the lymph nodes and monitor things. Fred's last PET Scan and ultra sound have shown no changes, no new areas and we have not checked his bone marrow since the original biopsy. We go by blood work and how he feels.

It will be one year in February that Fred has been cold plunging, every day. He will tell everyone that it has changed his life. He has also given up soda and he drank way too much, daily for years.

I don't like to talk about this publicly, because I don't want to jinx anything. Fred's bloodwork is better now, than it has ever been. We will go again on Monday for a routine check up.

It's easy to take things for granted, because he is such an active person and hard worker. Like many men in his generation, he doesn't complain and minimizes pain. We are on watch and wait and I certainly watch and advocate. I hope and pray we wait another 20 years. That is not the norm with mantle cell.

On 2/8 we are joining Fred for his biggest and coldest plunge ever. We have $775 left to our goal of funds to raise for the Special Olympics. Please consider supporting us with a $5 donation.
