Rice Fergus Miller is excited to announce that the Cowlitz 911 Dispatch Facility has won the Citation Award at the 2024 AIA Washington Council Civic Awards! 🏆

Located in Longview, WA, this 13,000 sq ft facility was designed to support the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of 911 dispatchers. The judges recognized the integration of the "Nature is Nurture" concept, enhancing efficiency, security, and overall wellness for first responders.

Wrapping up our latest for Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue: Station 57 in Lake Symington. This 10,993 sq. ft. facility comes with 4 apparatus bays and 5 dorms, ready to support the team and serve the community for years to come. This is one of three new stations recently completed for CKFR. 🚒

We’re excited to share a glimpse of Panorama Senior Living community's new courtyard, designed in collaboration with Lyon Landscape Architects! Centrally located between the Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living, this space is a vibrant community hub for all residents. The Pavilion includes an outdoor kitchen, lounge with a fireplace, skylights, and heaters for year-round use. The Assisted Living Dining Room opens to a patio, fostering an indoor-outdoor connection. Features like a water feature, fire table, and ambient art create a multi-sensory environment for residents and staff to connect with nature and each other. 🌳

We’re proud to share RFM Associate, Jessica Archer-Rucshner, has completed her second-year volunteering with the ACE Mentorship Program! ACE’s mission is to inspire high school students to explore careers in architecture, engineering, and construction through mentorship and ongoing support.

Jessica’s dedication as a mentor has not only provided invaluable insights into the intricacies of architecture but also highlighted the importance of collaboration in our profession. She enjoyed sharing her career journey with students, who find inspiration in hearing about the path to becoming an architect. As a team leader, Jessica found the experience personally fulfilling and believes strongly in the impact of mentorship on young minds. Her commitment to teaching and guiding the next generation reflects her passion for fostering future leaders in our industry.

Juneteenth, also celebrated as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, marks a pivotal moment in American history—the end of slavery. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers reached Galveston, Texas, announcing that the last enslaved individuals were finally free, a significant two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

RFM's culture is rooted in supporting communities throughout the PNW and beyond. One of our local clients, Kitsap Regional Library, has curated reading lists that honor Juneteenth which highlight Black voices, along with a collection of resources to deepen our understanding of this historic day. We’re pleased to share that RFM Associate and Architect Kirsten Dahlquist , AIA, LEED AP, is included among AIA Seattle’s Board of Director candidates for the 2024-2025 year. Seattle’s Board of Directors is responsible for moving initiatives of this member-led organization forward annually. Throughout her 16-year career, Kirsten’s work has focused on imagining solutions for the systemic social challenges of the 21st century through community engaged design, collaboration, and place-keeping. As a Director on the AIA Seattle Board, her work will focus on active member participation and engagement at all levels as part of the Membership Steering Committee.
