At Action Builders, we believe your kitchen should be designed around your home, your style, and your family’s needs. And when we say we can customize just about anything, we mean it!

Take this beautiful kitchen renovation, for example! One of our favorite features is the homeowners’ cherished wooden family hutch, which we carefully incorporated into the design to look like it was built right into the kitchen cabinetry.

Rather than sacrificing a meaningful family piece, we found a way to make it part of their brand-new kitchen. The result? A completely custom space that blends beautiful design, functionality, and a little family history.

From custom cabinetry and creative layouts to complex structural modifications, our experienced team has the craftsmanship and structural expertise to bring even your most unique ideas to life.

Sometimes, the home you love just needs a little reimagining (and a whole lot of structural expertise 😉).

These homeowners in Pittsburgh’s North Hills had a ranch-style home with a TINY kitchen, too many doorways, walls separating the rooms, and a layout that just wasn’t working for their family.

That’s where our team at Action Builders came in!

Our team completely transformed the main living area by:

✨ Removing walls to create a bright, open-concept layout with better flow.

✨ Expanding the kitchen into the former dining room, creating a much larger and more functional space.

✨ Building an addition over the existing garage, where there had previously been a patio, to significantly expand the living area.

✨ Carefully matching the brick on the home’s front exterior, ensuring the new addition blended beautifully with the original house.

And that last detail was especially important to these homeowners! They wanted MORE space without losing the original character and charm of their home.

This is what we do best at Action Builders! We don’t just update kitchens or add square footage. We rethink entire layouts, tackle complex structural challenges, and create beautiful, functional spaces that feel like they were always meant to be there.

Now THAT is a before and after transformation!

When it comes to building a home addition, one of the biggest challenges is making sure the new space looks like it was always meant to be there. And that’s exactly what our team at Action Builders does best!

For this beautiful two-story colonial in Pittsburgh’s South Hills, our team constructed a custom addition on the side of the home and completely replaced the siding on the entire house.

Why replace ALL the siding instead of just the new addition? 🤔

Because we believe a home addition should look like a natural extension of the original house, NOT an obvious afterthought!

By updating the exterior as a whole, we were able to create a cohesive, seamless finish that makes the entire home look refreshed and beautifully put together.

It’s this kind of attention to detail, thoughtful planning, and quality craftsmanship that sets Action Builders apart. From the structural work to the finishing touches, we take pride in making new additions blend beautifully with existing homes.

Beautiful windows are great… but windows that are actually EASY to clean? Even better. 🪟✨

Today, our Pella rep, Anthony, is demonstrating just how easy Pella windows can be to clean from inside your home.

It’s one of those little details you might not think about when choosing windows for your renovation or addition… but it can make a BIG difference once you’re actually living in the space.

At Action Builders, we want our clients to love how their homes look, but we also care about how they function in everyday life. That’s why we work with trusted partners like Pella to help our homeowners choose products that are beautiful, functional, and designed to make life a little easier.

Planning a Pittsburgh home renovation or addition? Let Action Builders help you create a home that’s thoughtfully designed down to the details. Get in touch with us today at the link in our bio!! We hope to hear from you soon.

The best home renovations are the ones where you can’t tell where the old ends and the new begins!

One of the things that sets Action Builders apart? Our attention to the SMALLEST details. And we’re talking about details most homeowners might not even think about!

Take original hardwood floors, for example. When we’re renovating or adding onto a home, one of the biggest challenges can be making new flooring blend seamlessly with the existing hardwood.

But that’s where our team’s experience and craftsmanship really shine!

From carefully matching wood tones and stain colors to considering the grain, finish, and overall character of the original flooring, we go the extra mile to make sure your newly renovated space feels like it has ALWAYS been part of your home.

Because the goal isn’t just to build something beautiful and new. It’s to make the entire home feel cohesive, intentional, and perfectly connected.

These returning Action Builders clients came to us with a dated kitchen and a previously enclosed porch that had been incorporated into an awkward kitchen/breakfast area.

We tore off that old enclosed porch and rebuilt the space entirely, creating a new addition PLUS a screened-in porch designed especially for some very important members of the family: their cats. 😻

Inside, we combined the new addition with the existing kitchen to create a unique galley-style layout that feels updated while still staying true to the character of the home.

And when we say this kitchen is maximizing its footprint, we mean it.

We found room for a counter-to-ceiling pantry cabinet, full-size range, full-size dishwasher, generously sized sink, counter-depth refrigerator, peninsula, bookcase AND a custom wet bar tucked beside the refrigerator. The homeowners also had some fun with the backsplash design, giving the finished kitchen even more personality.

By shifting the entire kitchen back, we were able to tuck a new powder room beside the stairs. The goal was for it to feel like it had always belonged there… not like something that was added decades later.

We even took special care to preserve the original casework and ceiling details in the dining room throughout the renovation.

There truly wasn’t another inch we could have squeezed out of this space, and we LOVE how much function, character, and personality we were able to fit into it.

And having previous clients trust us with their home for a second project? That makes this one even more special. ❤️

If you’ve been debating whether to remodel your current home or pack up and move, there are a few things we think every Pittsburgh homeowner should consider before putting that for-sale sign in the yard!

📍 Location matters – Many of Pittsburgh’s most desirable neighborhoods are already well established, with little to no vacant land available for new construction. If you love your neighborhood, school district, and community, finding another home in that same area might be harder than you think!

💰 Moving isn’t cheap – Between realtor fees, closing costs, and moving expenses, relocating can get expensive FAST. And chances are, your next home might need some renovations of its own!

🔨 Your current home has more potential than you think – That tiny kitchen? We can expand it. Those walls separating your living spaces? We can explore opening them up. Need another bedroom, a bigger family room, or an entirely new addition? That’s what we do best!

At Action Builders, we specialize in helping Pittsburgh homeowners transform the homes they already love into spaces that better fit their families.

With our experienced in-house team, structural expertise, and custom design-build approach, we can tackle even the most challenging renovations.

Because sometimes the best move is NOT moving at all! Before you list your home, let’s talk about what we could do to make you fall in love with it all over again.

Let’s talk about one of our favorite interior design trends right now: color drenching.

If you haven’t heard of it yet, color drenching is the art of painting your walls, trim, doors, and sometimes even your ceiling (yes, that’s what this client of ours did) in the same color to create a seamless, cohesive look.

So why is everyone loving this trend?

👉🏻 It makes a statement. Whether you’re going bold with a moody green as this client did, or keeping things soft with a warm neutral… color drenching instantly adds personality and sophistication to a room.

👉🏻 It makes spaces feel more cohesive. By eliminating harsh color transitions between walls, trim, and ceilings, you create a beautifully unified space that can even make smaller rooms feel more expansive.

👉🏻 It adds depth and character. Color drenching creates a custom, designer-inspired look that makes even the simplest spaces feel intentional and elevated.

At Action Builders, we love incorporating thoughtful design details like this into our Pittsburgh home renovations and additions. Our talented in-house design team can help you select the perfect colors, finishes, and design elements to bring your vision to life.

Sometimes, one wall is standing between you and a completely different home.

For this renovation, the existing kitchen had an awkward layout with multiple doorways breaking up the space and making it difficult to create a functional flow.

The solution? Remove the wall and open it up. 🙌

Once that wall came down, everything changed. We were able to completely rethink the kitchen layout, add a large island, create better flow between the spaces, and make the entire main living area feel bigger, brighter, and more connected.

But we didn’t stop with the kitchen.

This home also had an existing covered porch along the side of the house that we enclosed to create additional interior living space. The dining table was moved into the newly finished area, giving the homeowners even more room to spread out while allowing the renovated kitchen to really shine.

No massive addition. No completely reinventing the footprint. Just smart design decisions that made the existing home work SO much better.
