How do you value your landscape?
Deep root watering of your trees and shrubs NOW!
The growing cycle of trees and shrubs.
We are in slack tide. Plants are in transition of going from grow cycle (upwards) to growing down into the root zone. This slack time starts this week and goes for two weeks. Plants grow at the root zone for next seasons growing. The fall season is when the plants are gathering food for spring.
Due to the dry conditions in our area, plants need this water to survive. This is the time (mid Aug.- mid Oct.) to root feed your plants. The ground is dry and hard, moisture is needed in the soil for these plants to pick up nutrients for next spring’s growth.
Bugs and diseases will have a feast on your landscape. Plants need water to stay healthy.
Surface watering does not do enough in the conditions we are in. Most of that Surface water will evaporate. Deep root watering will put the water subsurface and will allow the plants to take up this water quicker. Each puncture into the soil will pump ½ to 1 gallon of water every 2-3 feet. This creates aeration as well as a reservoir of water.
This is all very complex, in addition to the water and aeration. Oxygen is brought into the soil. Great for root development.
If we have another dry season next year. You can count on losing a few plants in the future. Save your landscape. Deep root water and add fertilizer. Root feeding should be done every few years.
