A surprising health scare caused by mycotoxin poisoning. Mycotoxin poisoning is a toxic reaction caused by inhaling, ingesting, or touching toxic substances produced by fungi/mold often leading to acute or chronic illnesses. There can be dietary exposure, but also environmental exposure by inhaling or touching mold in water-damaged buildings. Common molds are Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillium. Mycotoxin poisoning isn’t a common occurrence and we breathe in mold spores daily typically without issue, but high exposure can cause chronic health issues. (Source-Cleveland Clinic)
