Pantry - After

The pantry has been swept, vacuumed, scrubbed/degreased. All the gaps around the shelves have been caulked so that the whole unit is now seamless. I painted this by hand instead of using a sprayer since this is an occupied home. I used a scuff-resistant enamel so that this paint will not chip and peel as the pantry gets stocked.

Pantry - Before. The pantry needs to be scrubbed down, the stains need to be sanded and primed. The final product will be a glossy protective enamel in a light white color, so I recommended that we caulk all the gaps because they will become very visible otherwise.

Another job well done!

This bathroom ceiling was in rough shape! We diagnosed the issue as stemming from a poorly working ceiling fan in conjunction with long hot showers being used. Steam and water droplets were lingering on the bathroom ceiling, penetrating through the flat paint and staining the drywall. Some of the drywall ceiling was even separating from the wall.

We sanded down the ceiling, cleaned it with bleach, then made some drywall tape repairs to the ceiling and walls.

We then used a new satin finish enamel for the ceiling - this will not allow water pe*******on. There was no old wall paint on site, so we matched the old paint color by eye - turned out great!

How do you make a striped accent wall that has straight lines and no paint leaking over?

I painted the whole wall in the lighter color first, in this case we are going for a Victoria's secret pink striping.

I measured the wall and made a small mark in pencil wherever there was to be a line. I then used a laser leveler passing through each pencil mark and applied the tape up against the red laser line from the baseboard to the ceiling.

Two very important things:
1. Use delicate tape. Otherwise you will pull up the base coat - the light pink in this case.
2. Once the tape is applied, run a dry rag over it to press it down and then BRUSH OVER THE TAPE USING THE BASE COAT- THIS IS THE LIGHT PINK IN THIS CASE. This seals up any gaps in the tape. Some of the base coat that I brush over the tape finds gaps and leaks under the tape. But it matches what's underneath perfectly and stops any future paint from following it and leaking under the tape. If you do not do this step, the new paint will leak under the tape onto the old paint every single time. Without fail.

Once this is done, I just brushed and rolled two coats of the darker pink and then I pulled the tape.

There are a few feelings more satisfying to a painter than pulling the tape and seeing a perfect line without any blemish.

This customer wanted to partially finish an area of the basement to make a work out room. By simply spraying the ceiling black and adding one finished and painted wall, we were able to make a big impact without a huge budget.

Working on my favorite type of project..... One inside my own house!

Since our little toddler is running around more and more, it's time to expand the livable area in our house by finishing our basement.

Did you know that you need to pull permits with the local government to do this work legally? Otherwise you could run into trouble when selling your house in the future.

Here at Midwest Painting Company, we do things right inside our homes and inside your homes. And, as you can see, we do more than just painting.

Here we have sprayed some of the basement ceiling black - other areas will be drywalled instead. We have also been working on framing all the walls, being sure to use pressure treated lumber where it's necessary.

Please call us anytime if you need any help with your basement this spring!
