What are we going to do?
Rather what are YOU going to do?
The bulk of the experience in the HVAC field is going to disappear in the next 10-15 years.
Why?
They are going to retire, expire and or otherwise become unapproachable.
What are YOU doing to learn as much as you can to take up the slack?
Do you realize the vacuum that will be created?
That giant sucking sound isn’t jobs this time… it is experienced know-how.
You CAN take up that gauntlet and BE that guy (or gal) and be ready to fill the shoes of those that have walked through the boiler rooms before you.
Beg, borrow and leech as much information as you can from these seasoned vets of the HVAC industry before you can’t.
Companies that train see this and hire the best that they can to teach as they work through their day.
The biggest problem is, there are far too few new folks entering the HVAC field that care enough to gain the experience they need to become that experienced specialist in the future.
Shake it up be different, use your brain and your hands.
The money is there.
I cannot ever recall hearing anyone that regrets being in the HVAC field for their entire life.

ATTENTION OHIO!
PLEASE, please do not turn your heat down or off during the expected bitter cold.
Please make sure to find a comfortable temperature (even if you are not there) and leave it there until we are back in the 30s.

There are many reasons for this advice that sadly many did not pay attention to over the years.

A little more on your fuel bill can save thousands in other damages.

Did you find this on your gas appliance?
Sometimes a little discomfort is a good thing!

Your HVAC professional may have just saved you and your family or employees a real headache and maybe worse.

In the course of a service call or predictive / preventive maintenance call your professional service specialist determined that your piece of equipment was unsafe.

How does this happen you ask?

Your professional service specialist is well trained in his tasking. A reputable company trains their associates to utilize the best equipment and tools to your advantage.

For example, you have your trusted HVAC contractor perform inspections on your equipment. They are tasked with things like checking and recording your gas pressure in and out of the furnace. They take combustion readings that indicate the health of the equipment. They sample the air flow from the inlet and outlet of the furnace to see if there are any indications of CO in the airstream.

CO you ask? CO is carbon MONoxide. Carbon monoxide is responsible for many illnesses and several deaths in the USA every year.

Please do NOT confuse CO with CO2 which is not usually a problem. CO is a deadly gas that is not detectable by anything except a good CO detector or combustion analyzer. These tools read real time conditions and when used properly will save lives and money.

The appliance will cost you money and most times money you didn’t want to spend but it is better that the appliance is sick and replaced than if you or yours were unhealthy or worse.
