By now, everyone has heard about AI, but nobody knows how it will impact or lives. Since it is constantly evolving, I can only provide some hints or guidelines. First, AI content creators are generating very accurate commercial offers and coupons. Gone are the days where you could identify a fake from bad grammar or spelling errors. AI can generate texts or emails in a very convincing format. They can even make phone calls or leave messages in a voice you recognize. To be safe, if you did not solicit the call, end the communication and contact the actual party using contact information you already have. DO NOT USE LINKS, PHONE NUMBERS, OR EMAIL ADDRESSES IN THE SUSPECT COMMUNICATION.

Another Microsoft update has been sent out asking you to set up backup. This is an attempt to get you to use OneDrive, which is cloud storage. Once it's enabled, it is difficult to go back. If you have more than 5GB of data, they will charge you for extra storage.

It's been a while since I posted something about scams and malicious attempts to steal your money or personal data. A few years ago, the overseas scam posts had grammar and structure errors that flagged them. With the advent of AI, they can actually send you a message in your own family's voice, or perfect English.

If you receive a questionable message, voice mail, or post. DO NOT reply within the message. Do the following:

Use your normal sign on and access your account after rebooting your PC. At that point you can verify if there appears to be an issue.

Use the account information from your last statement to contact the entity and verify if the message is real. Again, do not use any information in the suspect message.

If you are unsure, contact North MO IT Services any time for help with moving forward.

It's been a while since I posted a caution about replying to or sharing posts from suspect sources. Things like "Nobody has been able to find any number other than...", or a more recent post is a fake notice of a missing or taken person. These posts look real, but if you look closely, they are missing details that would normally be in that type of post, such as the actual police department or phone numbers. All of this information is used by scammers to build lists they sell to other scammers, such as "These people reply for share" and "These people also provide personal info when asked". This can come back to haunt you sometime in the future.

We see more and more of the posts, subject being anything from lost kids or dogs to grandpa's ashes. The easy way to tell it to look at the post in ORIGINATOR"S page. (Lisa Adams was the original here). Just under the post, you will see that "Comments have been turned off", which prevents people from calling it out as a hoax.

Today, I shopped local, which may not seem important. I purchased one item that was $4 cheaper on Amazon, but I'm pretty sure Amazon has not donated to a local fundraiser auction (and I didn't have to wait for shipping). Item two was available at an area box store, but they don't support local charity organizations. The third item was also available at national chains, but by the time I had the item and was walking out, I would have just been getting to the big sliding doors to enter.
