Elves eggnog free
Prices always the same
Twas the night before Christmas,
when all through the house
A stench was stirring, that could have killed a mouse.
The trash had been dumped by the garage with care,
Everything looked tidy, a smell shouldn’t be there.
The children’s socks were clean and they were in
their beds, but that unpleasant smell
still swirled above their heads.
Mamma was in the fridge and I was washing the pup,
trying to finding the source of that smell was
keeping us up!
When in the kitchen there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from washing the dog to see what was the matter.
Away to the kitchen I flew like a flash,
Thinking mama had found something new in the trash.
The kitchen was dark, my wet hands dripped on the floor,
Mamma was standing close to the refrigerator door.
When then, to my wondering eyes she pointed below,
But only to the sink and into the garbage disposal.
When I saw the culprit, I knew right away,
We needed to call a plumber today.
But who could we call on Christmas Eve?
I didn’t know what by tomorrow we could achieve.
Mamma’s eyes were full of tears,
This was coming true, her deepest fears.
“But Aunt May and Grace and Rosie are coming too”
“Everything must be perfect or what will we do?”
I dashed away and sprang to the phone,
I couldn’t bare my wife’s tears or her tone.
There has to be someone who
Can help us out of this mess.
I cleared my head and my worry I tried to suppress.
When out of my window I saw a white van,
Perhaps this was someone who could help my small clan.
The driver was waving and smiling and humming,
And painted on his van it said All American Plumbing.
I set the phone down, who could this be
Somebody working on Christmas Eve?
The man in the van asked if he could help
Mamma screamed and the wet dog gave a yelp.
The plumber didn’t looked dismayed by the clatter
He just simply asked “what is the matter?”
“Our kitchen sink is a wreck” I explained,
I reached for his hand and asked him his name.
He said my name’s Larry and rest assured
We are bonded, licensed and insured
I can get the sink fixed in a flash and
With that, to the kitchen he sprinted in a dash.
A second later he reappeared,
With a grin that stretched from ear to ear.
It’s all fixed he explained and handed me his card,
And the next thing he said caught me off guard.
He took a deep breath and said, it smells lovely in here
Mamma smiled and now cried just one happy tear.
Our Christmas was saved by the crafty plumber,
My heart felt warm like noon time in summer.
We stood by the window and waved a good-bye
The plumber jumped into his rig and started to drive
But through the window as he drove out of sight
I heard “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night
