Hillside Prairie Gardens

Hillside Prairie Gardens Authentic food for our local community. Dak. Our small, diverse family farm rests on a hillside overlooking the Sioux River and surrounding wetlands.

**note** updated 2020 -- We are currently on hiatus from selling via CSA or farmer's market **

Hillside Prairie Gardens is a certified organic market, whole sale vegetable and garlic producer on the very eastern edge of So. In our deep, rich prairie soil, we grow a wide range of fruits and vegetables using sustainable, 'beyond organic' methods, and focusing on heirloom varieties that give us tas

te, color, and history. In the 30 years we have been here, we have never submitted the land to any harsh chemicals, pesticides, or herbicides, or used synthetic fertilizers of any kind.

Support My Human Coach and grab a wellness coaching gift for yourself today!

Every person who becomes healthier steps more fully into living the life they are truly designed to live. This has a ripple effect on families, communities, and workplaces.
It's no secret that many of our systems are struggling, but we truly believe a better world is possible–and we’ll get there one healthier person at a time.
We all have a part to play in building a more just and equitable world. With the launch of our crowdfunding campaign via IFundWomen, MHC is one step closer to doing its part by offering health coaching scholarships and services to those who could benefit. We invite you to join us!

Here are four ways to help via the IFW campaign:
https://www.ifundwomen.com/projects/my-human-coach-0

1. Purchase a health coaching subscription for yourself
2. Pay it forward by supporting our coaching scholarships
3. Make a donation (of any amount... every dollar makes this work a little more possible!)
4. Like, save, and share this post with your networks!

Can we count on you to help us live our mission of making good health more accessible to everyone?

Thank you so much! Onward.

✨ Embrace your humanity ✨ Here at , the foundation of our work is authentic human to human connection. As they say over at , "Do something every day that makes you feel more human. Put your energy where it will serve you best right now. Let your community help you when you stumble, and help them when they do. Step into whatever’s next not with resolve to ‘be your best self’, but with acceptance that imperfect practice is the way forward."

Snow is falling today, as it always does in April, no matter how mild the winter. Huge flakes are drifting lazily to the earth and may stick around for a little while. By later this week they’ll have melted into the ground, but for now, winter and spring are still undecided. It feels like spring with the moisture the air, but it looks like winter as the landscape turns bright white for now.

And....Just Wild Enough is officially out in the wild. If you haven't already, you can order a copy wherever books are sold, but especially from The Nook Twinflower Books Glädje The Staple Valley Bookseller or stop into the gift shop at ArtReach St. Croix

Generally, reading reviews, especially on Goodreads, is a terrible idea. There's always going to be somebody who doesn't like your work and wants to talk about it. 😂🙃
Fortunately, there are also people who love your work and also want to talk about it.

Thanks for this, Rohn Strong. Just the boost needed during a stretch of harder than usual weeks.

"An incredible book. My absolute favorite book of all time. I’ll go back to this every day. It’s just incredible.
I’m at a loss for words.
My heart is full."

It can be tempting and pretty easy to let the good things fall to the wayside during challenging periods, like searching for a new job (one that pays enough and isn't a scam, which is turning out to be quite the feat this time around..) after a layoff. But as I write in Collisions of Earth and Sky, my 2023 book that was recently named a finalist in the Foreword Reviews book of the year awards, "Practicing gratitude doesn’t mean burying unwanted feelings or looking for the silver lining in a bad situation. Practicing gratitude means acknowledging what is still good alongside the mess."

And being a finalist for a book you're really proud of, even when that news comes during a period of hardship, is a good thing. (and warrants a fancy graphic, right? right.) As is the kindness of others who publicly state they like your work, or offer support in the myriad ways humans are capable of supporting one another. These things aren't silver linings--rather they are good things standing all on their own.

Edited to add: the paperbacks are gone, but I do have two hardcovers left if anybody wants one of those :) (22.95+ shipping)

Holiday special! I have 10 extra paperback copies of Cold Spring Hallelujah, a poetry collection all about healing. If you'd like one, either for yourself or as a gift for somebody who could use a little extra poetic support as we move toward a new year, now's your chance to get a signed copy directly from me. I'm happy to personalize it with a note to your loved one as well.

Details: $12.95 + shipping (usually about 5 dollars if you're in the USA - it'll be a bit more if you want it sent to another country..)

You can pay via Venmo - will get you to me.
So, if you'd like a copy or two, send a direct message with where you want the book(s) sent, who to personalize them for, and I'll give you your total.
If you let me know by Dec. 11, I will get them in the mail by Dec. 12 in hopes of them making it by Dec. 24.

About the book: Cold Spring Hallelujah explores the experience of being human in a world that often seems broken. Woven together by threads of healing, coming to terms with limitation, and deep reflection on what truly matters, author Heidi Barr issues an invitation to notice the fractured radiance that has the potential to be uncovered in each human life—and to claim the story that finds a foundation in love, of both self and neighbor. Also available anywhere else you get your books, or via the Homebound Publication online shop.

Sometimes you can't get around addressing what you are against....but I think you can always focus on what you are for ....and let things like the beauty of a carrot or the grooviness of a worm provide inspiration for living a certain way - give power to that, not what you want to defeat or change. Because at the end of the day, a carrot has more power than a stick, anyway.
