We’re currently getting to watch Lance Kessler Construction Inc. build this Mid-Century inspired beauty for our wonderful clients!

This amazing couple has great taste and we are honored that they chose us to help them design their forever home in📍Brookings, OR. On this project, we prioritized the living experience over hitting a high square footage number. Those priorities include :

- Using a fun building form to create a wonderful and unique interior natural light experience through strategically placed windows.

- Specifically framing desirable outside views with identified window shapes and locations to increase the feeling of seclusion on this site.

- Creating a unique single level living experience on a challenging lot to allow for aging-in-place so this home can be enjoyed through all stages of life.

We love getting to design places for people, stay tuned to see more of what we’ve been up to this year!

Too much wood? Not enough bathrooms? This Lindal Cedar home gave us a fun and challenging remodel project! These kit homes are built with solid cedar timbers stacked like Lincoln Logs—my favorite childhood game, but hard to change their structure in real life. The master bedroom loft was open to the living room, which did not provide enough privacy for this family. We converted the open master suite into a private master suite with private outside deck, plus a guest room/office, guest bath, and laundry space. Painted walls and railings, and dark stained oak floors reduced the overwhelming amount of exposed cedar color. The result is a much more livable home with the delightful contrast of a varied material palette.

surveying his team’s work on this extraordinary fitness room—a 16’ high aerial yoga space on the ground floor of this home. My biggest curiosity when building starts is whether the space will feel the way I envisioned. Thankfully it almost always feels as good or better than I expected!

We should see this beach home going up soon! The form of a home is the result of various forces pushing and pulling on the design. In this case a lot of square feet is placed on a smaller homesite, while maximizing the view over the dunes to the beach…go high, go wide! The owners are a cool couple looking forward to life on the beach!

Credit to JD for leading this design as the Sanct team took the owner’s concept and refined it into a home that is going to live large and be a beautiful place to recline and enjoy the Oregon coast views.

Excited to see this beachfront project get underway! We’re ready for concrete after Dusty Watson’s team removed about 8 feet of soil and put it back 8 inches at a time. It looks great! Ready for a home now via Justin Champlain & Dusty Watson.

Last week Siena Worthey took this light play shot at our office window. Siena’s portrait photography earned Silver last week in the Curry Coastal Pilot Reader’s Choice Awards. She has a great eye and a fun personality for capturing great portraits!

The Sanct team is out at the Azalea Festival Parade remembering those who haven’t returned this Memorial Day. We’re all smiles, but we aim to honor their sacrifices by living and serving with all our gifts, abilities, and resources. That includes enjoying our freedoms and blessings with gratitude and encouraging others. If you’re part of our family, we’re thankful for you too!

This year’s banners are in honor of my friends, Lieutenants Warren “Jerky” Sneed and Luke “Stiff” Johnson. Gone but not forgotten. Blue skies!

Happiest Easter from Sanct Architecture! We love church design.

It’s a major privilege to make places for people to gather together in worship or to come alone to pray.

We believe these sanctuaries should fill with natural light and have connections to nature and the local community beyond.

This not only makes wonderful places to worship, it’s great theology. These are fun conversations to have with congregations seeking to craft their places of worship.

This is the Chapel of St Ignatius at . It was designed by in 1997. We visited last week and found it peaceful and ready to receive prayer and worship.

We shared the space with one gentleman who was enjoying the refuge with a nap. We love it when churches are open and available for the refuge of spirit.

We’ve had the privilege of supporting a few congregations and look forward to more.

This home experienced a dramatic transformation with a bit of design vision and some excellent craftsmanship.

The home was listed as a 1980 home, but once purchased the owner discovered it was a 1980 shell built around an original 1890’s home. We ended up lovingly carving the old home out to maximize space and increase the ceiling height.

Every window and door was moved and enlarged to connect the interior of the home to the beautiful Willamette River waterfront site.

The kitchen was pulled away from the waterfront edge to maximize the connection to the river.

The bathroom entrance was moved to allow for a future second story stair.

We think it came out great! Designed and renovated by Sanct in 2018.

Shae & I had the privilege of watching J.P. Canlis working on a commission this weekend. Glass blowing is such a fascinating craft and media. The tools and techniques are ancient…still doing this the way it has been done for millennia (although now with electronic thermostats for the furnaces).

Still making beautiful things the same way. Being a human is so cool! Made in the image of Creative. Making things is such a satisfying experience. That’s one of the things I love about being an architect.

Many thanks to J.P. for his hospitality! He is so open and welcoming with his craft. Keep it up J.P.!
