Working by my father’s side taught me that there are no mysteries: no matter the complexity, if something had been put together I could rely on myself to figure out how to restore and make anything work. By today’s standards, the hand tools my father used were primitive, and when I work and think about my dad, I am amazed at the precision he achieved. I suppose my own drive to achieve perfection
in my work comes from these formative experiences working by my father’s side. When it was time to go to college, it was not surprising that I was drawn to a field of study aimed at deepening my understanding of the physical world. I attended the City College of New York, where I earned a Civil Engineering degree and received an award in Structural Analysis. Several years later, a career in computer programming followed, and after one too many layoffs, I returned to my roots in the Spring of 2001, and started Lasky HomeSmith Services. The work I had always enjoyed as a hobby became my full-time career. Until a few years ago, I worked on my own or with another carpenter. In 2017, my son, Alex, joined me in the business. It has been a thrill to see my son demonstrating extraordinary problem solving and technical skill, perfectly suited to our work at HomeSmith. I have to say, it is an extraordinary experience, to now be the father to the son. As a fully insured and licensed Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor, I provide a range of handyman and finish carpentry services requiring a high level of skill and attention to detail. My business is comprised of small jobs, like repairing/installing windows and doors, building decks, finish carpentry and cabinets, and a homeowner’s list of miscellaneous small repairs. I am a 40 year resident of Brookline, and live in the Village with my wife, Laurie. Until recently, she ran Little Feet Daycare, a family daycare in our home for twenty nine years. Both of my sons, now in their early thirties, live close by.
