Have you started planning your garden design for your spring/summer yet?

If not, now is the perfect time to start building those vegetable beds.

Repost from Brooklyn Queens Land Trust]

At the start of the pandemic, a Q Gardener 🌱 took the leap of faith to start a small farm upstate. This past year, he raised a flock of beautiful pasture-raised chickens 🐓. It's hard breaking into the farmer's market scene as a new farmer, so let's come together as a community to support him! 🔥

Join us this Friday 12/17, 5-7pm, for a special pop-up (frozen) chicken 🐔 distribution at one of our sister BQLT gardens, 1100 Block Bergen St. Community Garden in Crown Heights. We'll have a fire, 🔥 some vegan hot chocolate 🍫 and cookies 🍪 to sweeten the gathering :)

***All orders must be in by this Wed at 5pm!****
Chickens are 3.5-4 pounds and cost $20 each. You can order your chicken(s) by sending payment directly to Chris via Venmo -Tsimbidis (last 4 digits of phone are 9366). (DM us if you don't have Venmo!)
***Pay-it-forward option***
If you would like to sponsor a chicken for a neighbor, this is also a welcome option! Just make sure to mention that in the Venmo message ❤️

***IMPORTANT MESSAGE***
Please don’t think because community gardens are temporary closing the gates for the winter that they don’t need your support.

As an avid Brooklyn Urban Gardener(BUG) and community gardener volunteer, you can take my word COMMUNITY GARDENS NEED YOU RIGHT NOW!

Also, please remember that Gardening doesn’t start in the spring, Gardening starts NOW!

So please contact your local community garden or any community garden AND ask how you can support them NOW.

Repost from Community Gardens Need You

Community gardens are unique, vital places for environmental resilience, food sovereignty and collective care.

During 2021 we have been vigorously advocating for more resources and greater protections for community gardens, providing hands-on technical assistance to help increase community gardens’ capacity to grow and distribute fresh, healthy foods, and working closely with youth across the city through our food-justice focused Youth Empowerment Pipeline.

We need your support to carry out this crucial work.

That’s why today, on Giving Tuesday, we are asking for your help.
Please join our grassroots efforts to support NYC's community gardens. Visit our bio link to donate, sign up to volunteer, or join our Council of Gardeners.

Q: WHEH WAS THE LAST TIME YOU VOLUNTEERED?

Repost from Governors Island]
Mom and son are just two of the 16,000 volunteers from all over and beyond who have dedicated their time to support our Soil Start Farm, , and Compost Learning Center. They cheer for one another and learn about the importance of compost. Your $50 donation will support tools the volunteers need to reduce misdirected waste.
