I'm gathering some information for a report. Please let us know what type of grass you have and if you find it requires lots of care, an average amount of care or very little care. Thank you for your input in advance.

Just noticed the redbuds are starting to bloom. That means spring is coming.
If you haven't started your spring vegetable garden, it's time. Seeds need 6 -8 weeks to germinate before they are ready to put in the garden. Now is a good time to till in your compost and check the ph of your soil so you'll be ready to
get the seedling in the ground in early March.

Tonight & tomorrow night will be especially cold, so remember to bring tender plants inside. If you can't bring them in, cover with sheets or blankets using bamboo stakes ( or something similar) to prevent it from resting on the foliage.
An incandescent light bulb under the covering will help raise the temperature.

Do not try to ice your plants!! This method is best left to professional growers.

If your plants still suffer some damage, wait until you see new growth in the spring
before pruning. Remember - patience is virtue!! Pruning too little can cause more damage and pruning too much can stunt the spring growth.

Fall is for Planting!!
It is a great time to replace tired, old shrubs, add a tree (or two!) and some hardy perennials. If your landscape needs a makeover, now is the time!

The cooler air temperatures and still warm soil encourage root growth instead of foliage, giving your new plants a big jump in the spring. The cooler weather also means fewer insects and lower water requirements. Do remember that they still will need regular watering, like all newly installed plants.

Here in the South, the roots will continue to grow all winter since our ground doesn't freeze. With this well established root system, the plants planted in the fall will be better able to cope with the heat of the summer.

If you have any questions or need some help, give us a call!!

Chrysanthemums were in the garden centers beginning in early September, but now is really the best time to add these fall beauties to your landscape. Plant chrysanthemums in the full sun away from street or night lights, as the artificial light will disturb their photoperiod cycle. Remember not to overcrowd these plants, good air circulation will help prevent disease.
