April 27-May 1 2026
Monday Char had a game in Crystal River. We decided to explore Crystal River beforehand. We launched at Petes Pier and checked out Shell Island. Skirted around and found reds on a muddy point North of the mouth of the river. Fished about the last 2 hours of outgoing tide…..skunked
Tuesday we checked out the Chassahowitzka to see if we could scout and find Tarpon. We found some on points south of Chassahowitzka point. Spooked them so we moved to where I caught reds the previous Friday.
Skunked again!
Wednesday, Lily had her final high school softball game in Crystal River so I started the day at Pete‘s pier again with a good friend of mine.
I caught a flats slam in about 15 minutes of incoming tide off Shell Island point.
We caught short reds, short snook and a keeper trout for one of my customers that likes fish. Found lots of sheepshead off Rocky points with deep nearby water. Sean got broke off on a huge shark later that day on a mullet head, I chucked out on my tarpon rod. That was exciting!
I filleted the leftover mullet and gave that to another customer that likes to make Mullet dip.
Thursday was a busy work day but we managed to go out to Homosassa for one last shot at Snook season.
We ended up with a short snook, a flounder and some jacks out around the mouth of the little homosassa river at the last of the outgoing tide.
Friday…..yup we made it out Friday.
Went back to Shell Island and set up with live bait. Caught a 19” flounder on live shrimp and some short mangrove snapper. After about 2 hours I had to pick up the sweetheart and get some chow at crab plant in Crystal River. Headed back out like any addict would do and snooped around the oyster bars with the outgoing tide. Ended up with another snook and some small mangrove snapper.
Your work week isn’t gonna correlate with Fishing often so get out whenever you can. My best luck this week was showing up at low tide and fishing the incoming tide around the points. Lil’ Jons on a chartreuse jighead, about anything salt strong makes in white. And if all else fails, get shrimp under a popping cork, chill out and hydrate.
If you had any success this week, please share in the comments below.
P.S…..we did care for some trees this week, we will include some of that next week.
