For many of us winter is a time for reflection. I’m not much for New Year’s resolutions; they don’t generally work well for me. I do, though, like to reflect on the previous year and think about things that ARE working for me and things that maybe aren’t so much. Grow Wild! is a big part of ...

We spent hours this particular morning a few weeks ago walking around the house looking out the windows in utter awe. The moon setting as a backdrop to the vegetation sparkling like winter fireflies...

Practicing Gratitude I just returned from spending Thanksgiving with my 94-year-old Mother, Phyllis English, who lives in Hendersonville, NC. For me, Thanksgiving is not only a day to share a meal with family and friends, it's also a day to take time to reflect on who we are thankful for, and my mot...

Bee Smart: Grow Native! Plant Festival & Sale HIGHLIGHT

Building a Pollinator Garden in Central NY
At 1:00 pm in the refuge Visitor Center, join Krissy Boys from Finger Lakes Native Plant Society, for an in-depth presentation outlining step by step how to build a native plant garden for the specialist bees of the Northeast. Krissy will discuss:
▪plant sourcing by local nurseries that understand the need to provide genetically appropriate plant material
▪building the all-inclusive pollinator garden for the native bee species most in need
▪plant propagation protocols, including seed collecting, treatments and timing for successful propagation on your own

At 1:45 on the lawn/under the tent, stay for the workshop with Krissy following her presentation while she guides you through the proper seed handling and plant propagation techniques. Take home your own native plant seeds ready for planting and “dig” in.
