What I remember today…. is the cost
After the shooting in Uvalde, my mom remembered Chris talking to Law Enforcement about school shootings. He said, “When you are in a situation where innocent lives are on the line, you have to change your mindset. You have to become the predator.”
What is asked of us in a world where kids are being taught they have a “sovereignty.” A right to be respected for what they think and believe as a sovereign entity in the world. Mind you, this is before the frontal lobe of their brain (responsible for judgement) is even fully formed.
What is asked of us when we live in a world where people say it’s “my truth” instead, of “my thoughts, beliefs, perspective, experiences”? It’s all perverted…. It requires nothing other than proclaiming that something is untouchable because we feel, experience or perceive something that we don’t want anyone else to challenge. As if our lives are not connected to everyone else’s.
I see the cost of what people who are fighting darkness overseas are asked to do. It’s the same in country. We ask them to recognize the greater good against people who do not.
We ask them to come back to us as loving fathers, husbands and neighbors. We ask them to forget they had to discover a predator inside of themselves - willing and able to do what we needed them to do.
I don’t want to think of THE truth of this world today because I am tired of it. But, I do remember. All the time.
I remember those who have to access the darkness - be hung out to dry if they do and hung out to dry if they do not. I remember that they were hunted and haunted by darkness too. I remember their lives, and their deaths.
I remember the cost of Chris being willing and able to see THE truth of mankind and still find the good in himself and others.
I remember the painful truth of the spiritual, emotional and physical warfare around us and I can tell you this: The government can’t fix it.
If you want to remember, do it productively. Use your freedom to get involved with youth on any level. Find local programs or start them. Help kids see that we are all connected. Find them before their “truth” turns them into the predator our warriors have to hunt.
