A little planty lesson from one of our recent giveaway winners🌿
Our customer won a beautiful Variegated Alocasia Frydek and was so excited to get her baby settled in that she immediately repotted it into a pot nearly 4x bigger than its original home.
The result? The leaves started declining.
Why?
When you move a plant into too large of a pot too quickly, it often shifts all its energy into trying to establish and fill out that oversized root space instead of supporting healthy foliage. More soil also holds more moisture, which can create stress for the root system.
Here’s your gentle reminder:
🪴 Only size up about 2 inches at a time
🪴 Wait until roots are actively coming out of the drainage holes (or clearly rootbound)
🪴 Bigger is not always better when it comes to pots
Plant care can feel like a guessing game sometimes, but it doesn’t have to.
Before you pull the trigger on repotting, changing soil, chopping, propagating, or making any big plant decisions… ask us first.
At Green Gentry Plant Shop, we love your planty questions and would always rather help you troubleshoot beforehand than help you rehab after the fact 💚
We’re here to help your plants thrive, not just survive. 🌱
