A big change from dated oak cabinets to the new (linen) white. Walls, a closet, and the bulkheads were removed and after five weeks of work the kitchen is completed. The customers we the best in putting up with dust and of course delays beyond our control.

I typically never work out of town but as a favor for a friend I (we) took on this kitchen adventure in Buckhannon. For sure it wasn’t the usual project but turned into a labor of love with some super long fourteen hours days, overnights spent in a sleeping bag, Miss Piggies amazing barbecue, and midnight Aikido lessons in his driveway. But in the end it turned out to be a kitchen we were all proud of.

It was in 2010 that I took on the project of finishing a basement for a wonderful family. As a constant companion I had then 4 year old Cyrus who called me “construction man”. He would even have his mom pack for him a lunch pail and he would sit and eat with us every day. In returning to do another project all these years later Cyrus and now his sister Elsie are once again on the jobsite eager to learn and help as they can. The way I see it…when God gives you two bright shining apples…you make apple pie (and teach them how to finish drywall).

It wasn’t so much a big bathroom as much as a big change in style. The 40 year old West Virginia University themed Gold and Blue tile and sinks were replaced with something more contemporary and functional. Re-wired, re-plumbed, wallpaper stripped, new trim, and fresh paint lent to the air of newness.

When the proposal was made to install a kitchen on Chestnut Ridge in the middle of the winter my thoughts turned to wild whiteout rides and certain death but winter was never really that bad and my many weeks on the mountain turned into a wonderful adventure.

The customers tore out the old kitchen, Hunn Cabinets made and installed the new cabinets, I did the mechanical work, tile, flooring, and finish work, Dave gave encouragement and Robin kept us all straight.

There are times you work for friends but there are also special times in which you and the customer become friends. I left the mountain with new friends, many wonderful memories, and a family of Chickadees I fattened using Dave and Robin’s bird seed.

When I first looked at this job I was excited because I knew it would be a challenge. Making two rooms into one, dealing with the fireplace, and then all the angles. In the end it just came together and the homeowners and her cookies were absolutely the best.

After a restoration company had to some degree gutted the kitchen and bathrooms they were given to me to complete. After five weeks, painters who brought moonshine to work, days and days of no air conditioning, and a hardwood flooring company that left dust a 1/2" thick the Oak Court project is a day from completion.
