The results of our lives, be that our physical health, romantic relationships, financial success, etc. are a direct result of the patterns in our behavior and accumulation of daily habits and actions. Taking time away from something to “heal” and then trying again will ONLY work if the time is spent to intentionally reflecting, gaining self awareness, and working to adopt new skills and strategies in order to examine and change the negative patterns that got you there to begin with.
⠀
It’s like having a dirty room. Your room is a mess. It bothers you, makes your life difficult, even makes other people uncomfortable, but you refuse to deal with it and clean your room.
⠀
Instead you avoid it and distract yourself with other things: going to the gym, going to the bar, working, hanging out with friends. You forget about your dirty room for a while, but when you come home, it’s still there. The problem is still there!
⠀
This goes on for days, weeks, months, years, until you get fed up with thinking about it and decide to move. You move to a new house where there’s a brand new and clean room, but before long, it’s dirty again. You’ve brought the problem with you because you have refused to face and deal with your habits and patterns.
⠀
Until you decide to surrender and clean your room and learn to keep it clean, you will find dirty rooms wherever you go.
⠀
🧼 It takes courage to look at our own stuff. But if we can learn to observe and identify patterns, beliefs, and habits that don’t serve us without judgment, we have the power to make positive change in our lives; to break the negative cycle and be free from the shackles we’ve ultimately put on yourselves.
⠀
Everything is a choice! Take the journey into self discovery and total ownership of your life, and see it transform for the better.
