Recent covered patio to screen porch conversion in Round Rock. Stained western red cedar wood used. Custom built screen door with large doggie door. Customer super pleased. Can't wait for some cooler temps so it can be fully enjoyed!

Nothing better than helping an awesome repeat client with an item on their to do list. 👍

The exterior door and stair system was due for an upgrade. Moisture had infiltrated under the door periodically causing some damage to the subfloor. The old door was removed, floor fixed, and a new door was installed using a superior flashing method known as a door sill pan. Now water can visit, but it can’t come in. 😀

The exterior stairs were rebuilt from scratch with a combination of pressure treated pine with cedar guardrail. The client plans to stain all once the pressure treated material is allowed to dry appropriately.

Turned out awesome. 🤩

Super excited to announce the launch of the "Hillside Hideaway" on Airbnb. Multiple months of work went into this project.

An amazing repeat client chose to work with us to prepare, launch and manage the hosting process for his uniquely awesome house on a bluff high above Brushy Creek in Round Rock.

We can't wait to share this beautiful property with our future guests.

Excited to add this new workhorse to the team last week. Found it in Norfolk, VA. Flew out on Wednesday, two day drive back encompassing 1,400 miles.

Fun arbor makeover project completed recently in Brushy Creek. Column bases had significant rot issues to address. Lattice aesthetic updated to chevron design. Great challenge! Great outcome. Happy Customer. Happy Handyman and Handyson.

Power washing away dirt and pollen is so much fun.

Cedar posts and trim treated to a fresh coat of ReadySeal Pecan after ample drying time. Looks AWESOME!

What a great project to kick off 2022!

A wonderful repeat customer had a fun vision for an outdoor shower. We drew it up on paper and made it happen. 👍

The existing stairs were removed and rebuilt so the structural details and aesthetics matched the new outdoor shower.

Pressure treated pine was used for all framing and a western Red Cedar 2x6 decking was utilized for the walking surfaces. A “hog panel” and cedar guard rail was also added to the top elevation of the stairs.

Finally, reclaimed California redwood (originally installed at this house in 1976) was used for a custom bench in the shower area.

Looks awesome if I do say so myself. Customer agrees and is estatic. Summer can’t get here fast enough. 😀

Handyman Joel was at Phia’s house in Sun City this week. Phia was in charge of frequent inspections to make sure all the new cabinet hardware was installed to her liking. Thanks Phia. I had a doggone good time. 😀

Got rot?

Wood rot causes a number of potential issues from aesthetic to problematic. Unaddressed, it creates a path of entry for critters and more moisture, accelerating damage to trim work and potentially the underlying framing.

The best way to keep rot away is make sure all exterior gaps and cracks in trim are kept caulked and painted. It’s not always fun, but trust me…. It’s worth it.

This week I addressed the rot in the corners of this beautiful French door. It would have cost thousands of dollars to replace it. The right way to replace rot is to remove it and replace with a wood patch. I carefully match the details and dimensions, then prime all sides of the new wood to thwart future water pe*******on.

Prime, paint and seal and it sure looks great!

That’s a wrap!

Wonderful customer in Georgetown needed some help protecting her screened in porch from new pool construction. Her new pool was due to be formed with gunite concrete anyday.

The heavy plastic will protect the vulnerable patio screen from concrete overspray. We made sure to use thick 6 mil material for durability and strength. Can’t wait to return and see the gorgeous new pool in action!
