20% off on our Plant of the Week and Flower of the Week!
Plant of the Week:
One of our absolute favorites is the Sweet Olive. This evergreen shrub reaches 12'-15' tall and 4'-6' wide here in Central Arkansas (temperate zones 7b-8a). New growth is a beautiful burgundy that becomes lime green before maturing into tough, leathery dark green leaves that are highly deer-resistant.
Even though Sweet Olives don't fruit here, they still have hundreds of clusters of tiny cream-colored flowers that give off a delicate citrus-vanilla scent. Blooms are just starting to show up, so you can experience how wonderful these flowers smell. We've found that with 4+ hours of sun, a slow-release fertilizer once in the spring and once in the fall, and adequate watering, Sweet Olives can flower every month, year round. To increase the probability of monthly flowering, we recommend 6-8 hours or more of direct sun and watering once or twice a week (or 3 times if it hasn't rained much during the summer).
Sweet Olives are also masters of disguise. Since it's easy to trim to whatever height you would like it to be, and trimming can be done with hand snips, you can plant them 6' apart to create a privacy screen, trim them lower to be a hedgerow, or remove lower twigs and branches to make it look like a tree.
Our Sweet Olives are in 15-gallon containers and range in height from 5'-7' tall planted depth. If you don't have an SUV or truck for transport, just ask us about delivery. We can do the installation for you as well! As an added bonus, these were just fertilized on Saturday so no need to fertilize again until the fall!
Flower of the week:
Marigolds aren't just pretty, they're also hugely beneficial, which explains their popularity! A dual-purpose plant is always wonderful to have around. These yellow, orange, red-orange, and bi-colored jewel-toned beauties repel an array of garden pests including nematodes, aphids, whiteflies, hornworms, squash bug, and cucumber beetles. They can even deter deer and rabbits. Plant these throughout your vegetable garden and with your fruit shrubs to repel pests and encourage more pollinators, which means a better crop yield.
Our Marigold varieties can be 10"-12" tall on up to 16"-18" tall, which makes them perfect behind shorter flowers and in front of taller ones. They thrive in the Arkansas heat and humidity, and adore the sun. They're convinced the sun rises and stays in the sky so long in the summer because it loves them just as much as they love it. We tried explaining to them that the sun does that because the Earth's axis is tilted and the Northern hemisphere is closer to the sun this time of the year, but they didn't want a science lesson. In fact, we don't think they even heard us because they're too smitten with the sun to pay attention to anyone else. Well, they might not be listening to us, but you sure are. That's how you know the marigold 6 packs will only be $2.80/each all week.
If you made it this far, congratulations! You just learned about our bonus 20% off for tomato plants. You didn't think we'd tell you how great marigolds are for veggie gardens without offering a discount on tomatoes, did you? It's a super secret sale for those who made it to the end of this post. Kinda like the bonus scene at the end of Marvel movies, except with plants. That's how you know our organic tomato plants have gone from $4.95 to $3.96 all the way through Saturday, 8/16.
Come see us at 20720 S. Alexander Rd, Bauxite, AR for these Sales of the Week, Monday-Friday 8-3 and Saturday 8-5!
