🏠 Before & After: Landmark Baptist Church!

A fresh new look and better protection for this church in the Landmark community of Little Rock!

Acumen Contracting LLC removed the old roof down to the decking, completed needed repairs, and installed Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingles in Heather Stone.

We also tackled the leaking bell tower by removing siding from one entire side, installing new flashing, and adding ice and water shield over the flashing before installing new siding. Those extra layers help protect against future leaks.

🚁 A look BEFORE the work begins at Landmark Baptist Church in the Landmark community of Little Rock!

Acumen Contracting LLC will be removing the existing roof down to the decking, making any necessary decking repairs, and installing a new roof. We’ll also repair siding on the bell tower and install new flashing to address leaks and help protect the church from the weather.

This is a good example of why it matters where you put the nails when installing architectural shingles.

I went out to a house today around Arch Street and Roosevelt in Little Rock to repair three shingles that were sliding down a steep-pitch roof. After looking at it, the problem was pretty clear — the shingles were nailed too high.

Architectural shingles are designed with either a nailing strip that shows where to place the nails or a marked line that indicates the correct nailing location. Some shingles have a nailing strip with an extra piece of fiberglass built into it to help hold the nail properly. Others simply have a line that shows exactly where to nail so you don't miss the correct area.

You have to nail them in the correct location so the nail catches and holds the shingle like it's supposed to. If you nail above that area, the nail can pull right through the shingle and, over time, the shingle can start sliding down the roof.

The sad part about this roof is that the three shingles I fixed today probably aren't going to be the last ones. Whoever installed this roof didn't nail the shingles correctly, so there's a good chance they're going to continue having shingles slide down in other areas.

A roof can look good when it's first installed, but it's what's underneath and how it was installed that really matters.

Another roof transformation completed by Acumen Contracting in Maumelle, AR!
This home had sustained storm damage, and we were able to help the homeowner through the insurance claim process and work with their insurance company to get the roof replaced.
For the new roof, we installed Atlas architectural shingles in Shadow Black. The darker Shadow Black color looks great against the red brick and completely changes the appearance of this home.

🔎 You Never Know What We’ll Find During a Roof Inspection!
While inspecting a roof today, in Little Rock we found something you might not expect — a bullet lodged in the roof. 😳

Believe it or not, finding bullet damage on roofs isn’t as uncommon as you might think. I’m still surprised by how often we come across it during inspections.

In this case, the bullet penetrated deep into the roofing material but fortunately did not go completely through the roof. Sometimes they do, leaving a small opening that can eventually allow water into the home and cause damage that may go unnoticed for quite some time.

It’s another good example of why a thorough roof inspection involves more than simply looking for missing shingles.
