💟🍃 It’s Teaching Tuesday Again! 🍃 💟
Today we’re talking all about wisteria—a breathtaking flowering vine known for its cascading blooms, sweet fragrance, and ability to transform fences, pergolas, and arbors into something straight out of a storybook
CARE:
☀️ Wisteria thrives in full sun. Choose a location that receives a minimum of 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily to ensure abundant blooms
🌱 They prefer well-draining, loamy, or slightly sandy soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
💧 Soak newly planted wisteria thoroughly to establish the root system. For the first 1-2 years, provide about 1 inch of water per week. Established wisteria is highly drought-tolerant and only needs watering during prolonged dry spells
🍂 Apply a thick 2-to-3 inch layer of mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, but keep it a few inches away from the main stem to prevent rot.
✅ FUN FACTS
- Wisteria plants belong to the legume family, meaning they are cousins to peas and beans!
- Clockwise vs. Counterclockwise: You can tell Asian wisteria species apart by the way they twine! Japanese wisteria twines clockwise, while Chinese wisteria wraps itself counterclockwise
- When in bloom, wisteria attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators with its fragrant flowers, making it a beautiful addition to pollinator-friendly gardens.
- A healthy wisteria vine can outlive generations. Some of the oldest specimens around the world are well over a century old and still bloom every spring.
