Things are going great in the orchard and berry garden! All plants are growing vigorously! This weekend we planted 1 more apple tree (honeycrisp) and 2 elderberry plants. We finally found a solution to keep the Japanese beetles from decimating the plants- by spraying the leaves with kaolin clay. So that's the white you see in the photos.

I did a side by side comparison of a store bought strawberry vs a home grown strawberry picked this morning. I've known there was a clear difference but have never seen it side by side until now. Can you tell which is which? BTW-if you have never had a fresh home grown strawberry you are missing out!

Garden update! Most plants are doing amazing! We've lost a couple blackberry plants and will replace soon. But out of 48 plants that's not bad at all. Several trees in the orchard are battling a leaf fungus though so we're spraying them down with copper fungicide to help them out. Also had to put some diatomaceous earth on the strawberries because the rollie polies were eating the strawberries 😞. But we picked the biggest strawberry we've seen so far this season this morning so the powder is doing its job! Next year we are going to have so much fresh fruit!

I have some sad news 😞 our blackberries did not survive the move to our new property. I knew it was not a good time to transplant them since they were not dormant, but we had no choice. I had kept hoping they would come back from the roots, but alas they did not 😭 So I had to order all new plants to start again. This means that unfortunately there will be no blackberry harvest this year. I apologize to my customers who love to buy my fresh berries. I do have a few jars of jam and jelly though if anyone is interested.

This year will be about tending to all the new plants making sure they are well established and ready to produce next year! 2027 I am hoping to have blackberries, raspberries (red & black), strawberries, grapes (red & green), and blueberries! The apples, peaches, and cherries are to be determined since they can take a few years to produce fruit.

Boy we've been busy! Loving this awesome weather though! We've installed the berry trellises, planted multiple fruit trees (16 total!), filled 3/4 of the strawberry beds and planted them. Still have 7 more blueberries and 2 more grapes to plant and more trellis wires to install, and 1 more strawberry bed to fill. The fruit farm is coming along very nicely!

Hi friends! It's been a crazy few months 😵‍💫 my husband and I sold our house in October and bought one with 2 acres for planting! (Our old house only had a backyard of maybe a quarter of an acre). We dug up all of our plants and took our trellises and raised beds to move to the new property. We've been slowly planting and rebuilding the trellises as weather has permitted. We've also bought new plants and trees to expand our fruit farm! Here is a picture before any work was started. Stay tuned for updated photos to watch our progress!
